She kicked her shoe off at him.
That does not warrant the kind of attack the cop did back.

Heck, maybe at a push shoving her further back into the cell and locking her in?
But he should have just locked her in and left her alone for a few hours to chill out.

Sounds like the guy is a bit of a violent brute, from what I've read. He shot a mentally ill person 11 times because he saw the man reaching for something out of his car (there was no question about whether he should have shot, the mentally ill person had previously tried to strangle the cop) but eleven times?
Hitting people with shoes is considered assault with a deadly weapon. Yes I am being serious.
As is attacking an individual in cuffs with your bare fists after having been trained to kill. Which is why most military or ex-military cons are sent to Leavenworth. I'm not condoning either side here, but the officer should have used better judgement in doing his job. While the girl does need to pay for her crimes, he should not have taken it upon himself to be judge, jury, and executioner in this fashion. He deserves to be stripped of his badge at the very least for not following the laws that he is supposed to uphold.
She wasn't cuffed or at least shouldn't have been. Handcuffs and shackles are removed before putting them in a holding cell so she shouldn't have been cuffed and I don't think she was. I agree though I am not condoning either side but am just trying to understand the situation as a whole.
During the video, the pre-emptive strikes were done with her not in cuffs, however, he does strike her in the back of the head while she's on the ground after having put her in cuffs.

I think about 80% of cops are complete dicks who are getting back at society for them being picked on when they were in school and the other 20% are just people who said, " Well, I need to get a job and I'd prefer one where I can sit in a car most of the day. Maybe limo driver, pizza guy, or a cop?"
Silly asshole cops are normal people just like me. I almost said you and me but then I realized that would imply you were normal person.

That's seriously fucked up, that hard a beating is fucking crazy, and on a 15 yr old girl? Fucking throw this prick in prison, let him have someone twice his size beat the fuck out of him.

I swear, police seem to really think they can go aggro on people and get away with it, it's ridiculous.

Edit:

If a police woman had done the beating I wouldn't have cared, I don't mind police not taking shit, but he had such an advantage over her it's bullshit. Still, reading the full article (and if it was completely true) the kid needed discipline in the first place, and even though he wasn't the one who should have delivered it she still annoys the crap out of me.

Because that's not sexist.

EDIT: the guy I quoted changed his post so it's not sexist anymore. (trying to make me look like a dumbass I suppose)

I don't understand why some people try to justify this by saying it was the girl who assulted him with a shoe. Let me tell you something guys: the police are trained to deal with this stuff. Have any of you been in a joint? The stuff those thugs say to the police everytime one of them passes by are just insane; they insult, spit, taunt, antagonize... you name it. Now if those cops decided to kick the shit out of every one of those detainees that goes at them then they would have a lot of ass kicking to hand out.

I have a cop neighbor and this guy has told me stories of some of the stuff that some arrested individuals do to the police and you know what he keeps saying about it "as long as they don't strike at you or pull out a weapon, all you're left to do is suck it up and proceed". He's had a few instances where he's snapped yes: on a 32 years old 190 pound thug who while resisting arrest spat on my pal's face; what did the cop do? he gave him a whack in the ribs and then proceeded to rather roughly take him down to the floor and cuff him; not a 15 year old kid who happened to kick her shoe at him.

Yes people that's the type of shit cops put up with everyday, and that is why there are laws that allow a police officer to file certain types of charges if the arrestee gets hostile; because they are TRAINED (or so to speak) to handle this; damn, he could've simply closed the door and file an assault charge, I mean she was arrested already anyway; but nooo a 15 year old girl is not gonna put up a fight so lets just kick her ass and cuff her (and the other cop is as crooked).

I found the part of the article quite amusing where the cop said the shoe caused him "injury and pain". Well, cry me a river. Heaven forbid what would happen to this guy should he actually suffer some real pain....

I know of police officers that are aresholes and some that are actually decent. I do remember a time though, when my brother held his post formal. 3/4 of grade 12 were there and the only reason the police showed up, was because of a domestic dispute (bloody grubby neighbours) They broke it up, after one of his drunken mates called the police officers pigs. Everyone of them took it lightly and had a laugh, because they understood that this kid was drunk and just having a good time...except one. He got uberly pissed and threw my brothers mate to the ground to cuff him. A bit overkill, but hey, the cop had his pride hurt apparently.

its difficult to know what was really going on without sound though

the throw down was fine but the initial hit in the face is a little excessive

I like how he went back in and looked for blood on the wall

Holy crap, those cops went a bit OTT!

The title is misleading, it should say "Police Officer assaults 15 year old girl.". One man does not represent the entire force.

I appreciate the fact that he's a cop, enforcing the law and all that.
But he should really go see anger management. I've thought about being a cop myself (not seriously, of course) and figured that I'd get angry, like him, if someone disobeyed me.

Anger is fine.

Anger causing you to beat the everloving shit out of a CHILD, is not.

I can't stand crap like this, but not because of what was in the video. The video doesn't really surprise me, but that doesn't mean it was deserved.

What pisses me off is that so many people take that actions of one police officer and stereotype the entire system as these kinds of people. Which is amusing, because this is the same society that is pushing away assimilating behavioural traits, like stereotyping. A man that I know has been working for the police force for 26 years, and he's never been "corrupt" or anything along those lines, nor has anyone he's worked with.

So why do people like to go on and say "This is why everyone hates cops!" I used to assume that these were all people who had only ever been influenced by the police when their asses are getting busted for posession or some other unintelligent crime. Then, as it turns out, it's because they've "met a few cops that were all dicks."

Oh well, I can't say I'm surprised with this sort of reaction.

Anyways...I figure both sides in this video (girl and the officer) were out of line. As was stated before, she's 15 and being thrown into a jail cell, so why isn't the media regarding the fact that she's already established herself as a poor citizen?

There's no excuse for his actions and all that, though.

True, I should have worded that differently. x3
But yeah, I wouldn't get angry if she simply kicked her shoe at me, called me a fat pig or whatever. Cops should be used to stuff like that.

That is despicable. What a pathetic waste of human life. There are so many people I know who, while they may not be saints, have amazing creative abilities but are lacking in confidence due to constant arrests and police abuse who could go on to do such fucking great things if it weren't for the fact that scumbag pigs are behaving like this on the job and diminishing their confidence. Do the words repeat offender mean anything to anyone? Do the words repeat offender start to make sense now? Discipline is all well and good. Over assertive discipline can destroy everything that's good about a person and drive them to do it again because fuck it, what else is there left? Things need to change...
