Yes, here it is, yet another crime attributed to World of Warcraft.

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/technology/975707/police-investigate-world-of-warcraft-murder

I know the headlined makes it sound like police are investigating an in game character that has gone on a killing spree like that South Park episode, that might actually have been funny.

Police are "looking into" the fact that the game might have played a significant role in the murder. Its almost as if they are planning on arresting and interrogating the servers.

Anyway, do you think such a flimsy pretence of "She was meeting some friends she knew from World of Warcraft", can turn into it causing her murder?

Get Jack Thompson on the case! And it just makes your mind think WoW did it because they give absolutely NO facts about any other element of the murder, and don't tell if she and him met online or if the game had anything to do with.

Oh great... We know FOX will be over this...

God damnit like people needed a bigger excuse to put us gamers on a rock and repeatedly bomb that rock...

Don't worry, they have nothing to back this with. Of the millions of people that play it, I'm guessing a good 10,000 at least are murderers/

oh lord, this is perfect ammunition for politicians with anti-videogame agenda. It's going to be all 'corrupting our children' this and 'he murdered for the game' that, nevermind it's not in the US. It really bothers me how some people carry the torches and pitchforks after something that's infinitely less harmful then alcohol or cigarettes. anyways, rage over

PS the picture caption: World of Warcraft gamer Erika Eriksson was found murdered in his apartment.

Oh, it's in Australia. No worries, it's not like 85% of the environment itself isn't actively intent on killing you.

... oh.

That was the worst article I have ever read.

Five or so paragraphs does not an article make.

Incidentally, the 'extent' to which World of Warcraft seems to be involved is "they met through it".

Ooh. Cower in fear.

For some reason this does not comfort me...

Even if this article was true:
1 out of how-ever-million WoW players killed because of game.
How many people have been murdered over / because of other highly popular things? (e.g. Alcohol, Girl/Boyfriends, Sports) Should all of these be banned too?

I don't blame WoW specifically, but 'the internet' definitely played a role. This is the long-standing topic of 'internet anonymity abused to gain trust'.

..er, the news is reported in Australia (hence the.au in the link) but the crime occurred in Sweden (hence the "Police in Sweden" part).

Or did it happen to a Swede who was in Australia..

I don't know how to take this. I don't like WoW, but I guess if police push around the super-addictive MMO, they'll spit in the eye of other industries too, and for no reason.

I'm extremely amused A) by the woman's name and B) that in the caption under the photo they say "...in his apartment."

Way to go, editors.

I noticed that as well. I thought she was a Transvestite, until I read the article.

Well you know what they say about WoW, that shit is as addictive as crack and has the same surrounding culture as crack.
