He can recover. If looks are any indication, he already has.

It has no permanent effect and it looks like he has no problem with violence. I fully stand by the police on this one.

Justified, let's hope he learned no to swing goddamn sticks at people.

Just watched the video, his mother is a crap excuse for a parent. Someone should be taught accountability

Not fully aware of his actions my ass.

Kill people with a stick when he's 8?

I think pepper spray is fine in this situation since parenting obviously has failed. But he wasn't going to kill anyone.

It sounded like a pretty damn serious situation that needed to be stopped, it could've been a lot worse, the kid will get over it.

It doesn't matter that he's 8 years old, his actions could've been extremely harmful.

I read articles about this earlier. He had a weapon (regardless of the fact that it was a sharp piece of wood) and was threatening TO KILL both teachers and the police. I'd say that pepper spray was very much justified. I'd even say tazering would be acceptable- when someone is angry, has a weapon, and is threatening to kill you, you should not take chances, regardless of their age or size.

Also, this isn't the first time that the kid had the police called on him at school, nor the second, if articles are to be believed.

Totally justified... and it's just CS. I used to breathe that stuff on a bet. Puts hair on your chest. Even allergic reactions to the stuff aren't life-threatening.

I think it's excessive force. Pepper spray can be leathal if the person has an allergic reaction to it. I don't think you should use it in a situation that doesn't call for leathal force. Same with tasers.

EDIT: I'm surprised at how many people took this seriously as opposed to satire.

He wanted to, and he said he wanted to find something sharp. Sharp objects can be used lethally quite easily.
Wanting to and being able to are very far apart.

Sorry, but I agree with the police. Pepper spray CAN be harmful, but rarely to the point of disfigurement or anywhere near lethal. If the kid was being verbally and/or physically abusive to them, they need to take action to calm him down. Getting in close enough to have the kid be able to attack them is out of the question and rushing him and risk breaking one of the kid's bones by accident is even moreso.
I can't justify the mother's wording though. "She said she believes that police with proper training could have defused or at least stabilized the situation until she arrived. ?I was 10 minutes away,? she said."
One has to assume that any officer of the law that is placed to deal with children with mental disabilities WILL be properly trained beforehand. We're not talking about full grown adults who will easily heal if hurt or will shrug off anything said or done to them... They're kids!
This isn't to say the mother is completely to blame, but at the same time, telling the kid that threatened to kill two teachers and was abusive to police officers that he did nothing wrong and it wasn't his fault is giving him bad life lessons and won't help him move past that stage in his life.

You dont think its possible for someone with a sharp object to kill someone easily? It doesnt even have to be very sharp, catch someone in an artery and they're pretty much dead whether the persons 8 or 80.

bad parenting. people should hit their children. not beat them up, but a spanking is justified in an incident like this. and apparently this wasnt his first tantrum. he was swinging a stick at COPS. you dont do that. besides, if you are the police officer arent you going to be a little annoyed that you are being called in to 'talk him down' like he is holding someone hostage or about to jump off the roof? i think that what the kid was thinking was that he could do anything since nothing came of his previous tantrums
