In Seattle, a man walked into a convenience store and started the conversation with "I'm robbing you, sir." He proceeded to explain WHY he's robbing him, citing bills to pay and children to feed. After the taking 300$, he apologised and told the store owner that if he ever gets back on his feet again, he'll pay him back.

Any thoughts?

Well that's kind of heartwarming and despressing, but I must say it wasn't the smartest move on the robber's part when it comes to keeping his identity secret. There's a reason why most crims don't do what he did and it's not nothing to do with "society's declining values" or whatever other speculatory nonsense.

Nice to actually see some consideration for the victim, even tho he is being robbed

This... well... I have to say...

It's fucked he robbed him, but he did it in a non-dick like manner for reasons that I sympathize with.

I have to respect him for that. :/

Fuck, if he gives the money back, I'll give him a grand.

It also stated that he had previous crimes to his record..

Maybe he just tried this approach so that the victim would stay calm and not attack him..

Wow, there sure a lot of cynics here at The Escapist.
Has anybody considered he did it simply because he didn't have a choice? And that he was trying to make it as easy as possible? Thats also a possibility.

Robbery = bad. Good manners and promise to repay debt = good. That's, er, bad? I don't know anymore...

In fact:

Such cynicism.
The guy is obviously not a career criminal, just some poor desperate dude stuck between a rock and a hard place.
It does not make him any less of a thief. BUT I have been robbed by 2 guys who held a knife to my girlfriends throat. I have also been robbed more times than I can remember by 'friends' telling me bullshit.
kudos him as one of the few honest thieves in my opinion

A fine gentleman I must say! I'm surprised he didn't shake the employee's hand and thank him for his "donation" before fleeing the scene. XD

Well we can assume this guy is a polite and nice man who is only committing robbery to help his family, which is still bad, it is much preferred to some lanky, smarmy twenty four year old robbing a guy to support his drug habit.

But he did break the law, and that does deserve him jail time or at least a hefty fine.

I really like to think that he's a nice guy forced into a bad situation, if not, oh well. I can sympathise with a good guy forced into crime, I can admire the cunning of a guy that can keep a shopkeeper calm during a robbery.
