Wow, maybe it's just me but I think people are overreacting. He's obviously trying to make a sarcastic joke, and while I agree it's in a little poor taste, he put it on Facebook; not a campaign speech. It's his personal opinion that anime is really dumb. It's not something I directly agree with, but I can definitely understand. I'm sure if he said he loved anime, he'd be getting just as much flak from the "anti-nerds" groups. A politician can't agree with EVERYONE's interests.

And speaking of nukes, politicians are a prime example of why Fallout 3 is an improvement over Washington, DC as it currently stands. I'd rather the place be full of Super Mutants.
Super Mutants in suits who argue pointless trivialities in Congress.
When they're not shooting at Talon Company mercs in the Capitol building?
Or complaining about their socialist President!

'RAWR! Super Mutant says healthcare is COMMUNISM!'
So call in Liberty Prime. "Death is preferable to Communism."

As for the Republicans, here's a rejected analogy from the SAT: Racist, intolerant right-wing extremists : Christians :: al-Qaeda : Muslims.
You know this guy is a democrat, right?
Separate thought from this guy.

lol, he probably just saw some really crazy anime and thought, "dammit japan!" Obviously this guy isn't suggesting that we nuke Japan-- people just choose to construe it that way because he is a politician. I found the joke rather humorous, if a little "too soon."

The media needs to stop feeding trolls.
The media live on trolls. Without trolls, the media would have to report the news.
I may have spoken to soon. This is the most win post ever.

Is it bad that I found that deliciously hilarious, and am considering changing political affiliations?

Is it just me, or are nowadays politicians the kind of people who SHOULD NOT be politicians?

'Cause I certainly think so!
It is a known fact that the want to be a politician is the ultimate grounds for showing that you are unfit to ever BE a politician.

... you are the definition of an Idiot.

ancient athenian democracy would agree.

edit: Idiot comes from Idio, a word used for people in athens who were considered mentally inferior for not participating in public matters.

God, I love Facebook.

Everyone's dirty, dark thoughts are visable for all the world to see.
It's like /b/, only they're serious and are perfectly fine exposing their identities, so it's potentially even more disturbing (seriously, I've run across things on Wordpress and the like that disturbed me more because they were serious).

Well, I have mixed opinions here.

On one hand I think people are shocked because they really don't understand the position of the left wing/democratic party in the US. For whatever reason they got the reputation of being all pro-free speech and everything, but in all honesty that hasn't been the case for a very long time.

It's also noteworthy that the "left wing" has been increasingly violent and aggressive for a long time, oftentimes based on hatred of stereotyped "conservative attitudes" that do not exist or have not existed for a very long period of time either. This sentiment being used to justify cheating in elections ("because the other side does it"), violence, and of course the biggest issue of all: censorship. People tend to forget things like how Al Gore was caught with his hand in the Cookie Jar during his election against "Dubbya". He was caught accepting money from the Chinese goverment (a foreign power) being passed to him covertly through Buddhist temples (I kid you not). The left wing on the other hand did not care, and still cried like babies when "W" won the election despite the fact that their man was basically outed as a traitor (and frankly, when you combine this with things like Bill Clinton's loss of tech to the Chinese it's pretty damning). We also had things like Black Panthers apparently chasing Republicans away from the polls during the last election, which was ALSO ignored due to the fact that "Republicans have done this to Blacks in the past" (despite it never having been proven).

I guess the problem ultimatly comes down to the fact that Republicans are doubtlessly corrupt in their own way, though in general very little can actually be proven (just suspected). On the other hand the left wing has been acting flagrently and getting away with it to the point where a lot of people involved, especially in the leadership, feel invulnerable and that their supporters are going to back whatever messed up thing they
decide to beat us over the head with next.

The point here is not to play Tit for Tat (and I'm going to avoid argueing about it, since it can go on forever) merely to point out that this kind of behavior shouldn't shock anyone. I mean it's been going on for a while. As far as hunting Republicans with guns, well they even made a video game about it (which is surprisingly good for what it is):

http://lcs.wikidot.com/

Had someone done that in reverse, there would have been a media outcry.

As far as anti-Japanese sentiments go, well it IS a free country, but that isn't the kind of thing you say in regards to POP CULTURE when your a bloody politician. Truthfully I have my own problems with Japan (which have nothing to do with Anime... in fact they exist despite being a fan of some of it), but I feel that if they are going to be addressed in a public sense by a politician it should be done professionally (and frankly, I've been hoping someone would for a while, but it gets into another whole discussion).

The truth is that despite some extreme views on warfare, and being ridiculously pro-American in backlash to anti-American sentiment, I am pretty much a moderate. I simply registered Republican because while my views go in both directions (with various degrees of extremity) I usually wind up agreeing with The Republicans more than their opposite number.

I think a lot of pure left wing extremists need to seriously sit down and analyze what they are supporting sometime. Not just off of the propaganda, but what their "side" is actually doing, and the methods it employs... as well as people like the above.

I'll also be honest in saying that I think the left wing needs to bloody grow up, since the stunts are just ridiculous. During the last two elections we had people running around naked and such with signs saying "The Naked Truth About Bush" or tromping around in elephant costumes with signs saying "Elephants against Republicans", and other ridiculous things. Nothing inherantly illegal, or immoral, but enough to make it so that I inherantly want to vote against anything dweebs like that stand for. Even more ridiculously the news occasionally seems to take great joy in showing the antics of left wing political
activists.

Very political (like similar posts I've written), and my apologies. I'm just saying that nobody should be deeply scandalized by this. I mean it's not like it's new. Besides I imagine by the next election left wingers will have totally forgotten about this guy (win or lose) even though I probably won't have and will be considering it when weighting the cantidates, parties, and who I want to see put into power.

Oh and really, even if you aren't left wing, try "Liberal Crime Squad" it's a pretty good text/roguelike type game overall, and pretty funny in places. :)
