Except that it didn't at all and your responses to the objections completely undermined your analysis.
If there were any actual faults in what I've said, you'd be pointing it out instead of distracting with climate change.
Why? Your personal definition of progressivism is entirely inconsequential, and your replies thus far have in the best cases only obliquely engaged my points.

Idolizing guns IS worshipping them.
Ooooooor they're using arms and iconography of the era. Would you be saying these same things if they were swords?
I'd ask you the same.

Why would my response be any different? Swords used in a religious ceremony is not a new thing.

It's not my personal definition of progressivism, its the definition of progressivism. That people currently self-identifying as progressive are ignorant of what they're saying is not my doing. And you haven't made any points, you're just repeatedly playing the "so what you're saying is" game and proving yourself incapable of even paraphrasing my explanation correctly.

You never make any points. You're just reaching for the "gotcha" moment. You're never going to "gotcha" me, give up.

I love how we can have two different debates going on at the same time in the same thread, due to how conversation paths diverge

Not in a way you'd acknowledge, no. But that's not my concern.

Because of your extreme pro-gun bias.
So, my love for guns would... have a negative impact on melee weapons? Arms covers far more than just ballistics. To ask me the question and expect a different answer would be rather odd, to say the least.

The site still has some magic in it yet.

I'm pretty certain your only concern is blindly lashing out at any challenge to your ideology.

People are allowed to use both swords and guns in religious ceremonies regardless of how that makes other people feel.

So? Doesnt refute me at all. Just because people are allowed to do something doesnt mean it is reasonable.

It's no less reasonable than any other religious ceremony.

I like weapons in general. Either way, they're free to practice their religion as they see fit. Swords, guns, sex dolls, what have you.

So, random personal tangent on the gun discussion...

I had a moment of sudden perspective on the bus last night, that made me even more glad that I live in Canada.

I was on my way home from my monthly LARP, and since it was 11 PM and friday night counts as a "weekend", the end of the bridge was merging 4 lanes into 1 due to late-night construction.

So, everyone's annoyed at this huge traffic jam. Then, the guy directly behind me goes from grumbling to literally screaming out loud in french at the top of his lungs and punctuating the screamed words with heavy stomps. And yelling for people up front to yell at the driver to use the reserved lane when the reserved lane was blocked off due to construction. Honestly, it freaked me the hell out.

Fortunately, he didn't start shoving or getting more aggressive, but when I got off the bus, I had a thought.

If I lived in the US, I'd have to wonder "Does this unstable man have a gun? Might he use it to threaten the bus driver or anyone between him and them? Might someone else on the bus feel threatened by him and pull out their own gun? I'm literally next to the guy, would I be the first target?"

Next time I speak to my grandparents I'm going to AGAIN thank them for coming to Canada, and not the States. I like not having to worry that anyone, even unstable people, might be armed and deadly.

So I was woke up in the middle of the night last night with a call from my sister that the father of her children was shot and killed by a neighbor over an argument about the neighbors dog being in his yard so she now has to explain to her children why their father is dead. Yes, be glad you moved to Canada or anywhere else for that matter where things like this are not just a daily occurrence. She already had to explain to them that their cousin the same age as them that they played with daily was dead after being ripped apart and eaten alive at 7 yrs old by a neighbors fighting pit bulls while playing in his own yard, now their father is dead just a few years later. Yes, be glad to live anywhere but here where this is apparently acceptable by societies standards here because having dogs bred to kill and guns in the hands of anyone is apparently more important than children playing in their own yard and people being murdered for not wanting viscous dogs in their yard where their baby plays.

Diverging a bit, but do we not blame shitty dog owners for letting their terribly trained dogs get into someone else's yard and kill a child? Gonna firmly plant myself in the territory of "shitty owners, not shitty dogs".

Not when it comes to animals that were specifically bred to kill. The Owners were at work and the Pits broke a metal kennel to get out due to their sheer strength. They were "rescued dogs". All dogs bite, just not all dogs can rip off limbs when they bite. It is like the difference between having a lion and a domestic cat. American pit bulls were specifically bred to make them lethal weapons and this is why 66% of fatalities from dogs are from Pit Bulls alone.

Through selective breeding, pit bulls have developed enormous jaw strength, as well as a ruinous "hold and shake" bite style, designed to inflict the maximum damage possible on their victims. This bite trait delivered winning results in the fighting pit. When the Colorado Supreme Court upheld the Denver pit bull ban in 2005, the high court set aside characteristics that pit bulls displayed when they attack that differ from all other dog breeds. One of these characteristics was their lethal bite:

"Pit bulls inflicted more serious wounds than other breeds. They tend to attack the deep muscles, to hold on, to shake, and to cause ripping of tissues. Pit bull attacks were compared to shark attacks."
and more information:
https://www.dogsbite.org/dangerous-dogs-pit-bull-faq.php

I raised 6 dogs growing up. When they become sick, injured or old they often become grumpy and snap at people, even when they were the nicest dog in the world the rest of the time. When our very loyal and loving cocker spaniel became old and temperamental, it became startled and it snapped at my baby sister and gave her 17 stitches in the face. If that had been a pit, she would likely have been dead. That is the difference between the strength of the breeds. Of course there are bad owners, but there are also breeds that should never be considered "pets" when they can kill so easily. This lion seems to be loving enough too doesn't he?

That still doesn't mean it won't kill someone if angry, sick, injured, old or startled later. That is how pits really should be viewed due to their sheer ability to kill.

But yea this is Texas right? People getting shot by neighbors and children ripped apart by pit bulls is more acceptable than kids being able to play in their yards safely because they banned pits and guns.

Jesus fucking christ, you and her have my deepest sympathies and condolences.
