You guys really need to stop buying retail and ship things overseas, it's the only way gameshops will stop that shit(or whoever is causing it), not to mention you will get all games on time and non-censored.

But if you continue to buy their stuff and they can squeeze $110 out of you, why ever would they go down from that? it will only get worse

Those prices are absolutely INSANE! In America you would only spend that much if it was like the uber nerdy collector edition
Prestige Edition for us cost nearly $220

Those prices are almost as bad for your wallet as your poll options are for my brain! HIIIIIIIYOOOOOOOO
oh SNAP, yo!

OT: i'm not american, but live in the us. and yes... i thought paying 60 bucks was ridiculous... but paying 110 for a freaking SINGLE game. without damn DLC or nothing? shit, for that price i'd expect the thing to talk back to me. or like a poster above me says, at least a collectors unlimited super golden edition.

i feel your pain... but am glad i don't live in that big island xD

Australian wages are on average (and in US dollars) DOUBLE what the average US wage is. While the conversion rate of the currencies are about the same, the sheer amount of money each person earns is vastly different. Basically your $110 games is the same as an American getting the same game for $55 when you figure in the differing monetary grosses of each person.

Quickly, US gamer earns $1 for something while the Aussie earns $2 for the same thing. The differing prices are set to make them equal to each countries SOL (Standard of Living) so that a person doesn't import all of their goods, which would cripple a country in the long run if enough people did it. It's the new Mutually Assured Destruction that is based around economics instead of Nukes.

Because they can. That is why.
I guess this. If you stop buying games for that expensive, I would assume the prices go down. I honestly have no idea how the Australian government or anything taxes games so I don't really know what causes the price to go up so high, but I assume that everyone is trying to make a profit... the developers, the guys who shipped it to Australia, the game store, and the government all want a share and I'll bet you the guys that ship the games and the government want a large percentage. But I seriously know less about this stuff than anyone here so don't take my word for it.

I won't even pay £40 for a game on release unless I have massively anticipated it (next game I will preorder will be Mass Effect 3). So I can understand your unease

It's just as bad in Sweden. It sucks, what can I say? Can't do much about it. I don't know why though, probably taxes and stuff.

£40 is still pretty high, and often the shops will round up the exchange rate from American dollars. The Duke Nukem limited edition price has been rounded up by almost £18.

That is one of the reason I have decided not to move to Australia. I personally will not spend more than £10 on a game.

In Poland, you pay 220 zl for a console game. 150 zl for a PC game.
Mind, in USA/Australia you probably earn like 2500 dollars a month, while in Poland you earn 2500 zl a month.
Please don't complain about Australian Dollar's buying power, its not as bad.
Really.

Damn, and I thought our prices in Norway was steep... 499 NOK/549 NOK for an AAA title, which is about 88 USD/97 USD for an AAA title. (Some variations apply, due to competitions with other game selling businesses.)

You Aussie-gamers really do get the short end of the stick a lot when it comes to gaming, huh? =/

Speaking of prices and games though, I bought Valkyria Chronicles for 19.99 USD when I was in the US on vacation, best money spent ever.

Which is about $60 USD give or take... usually give, us Brits aren't lucky enough for good weather, let alone take.

OT: Maybe it's like that because of national income? I'm unsure as to the actual details on the value of Australian money to US money but there should be a good reason for it. If there is no good reason then it is an extortionate amount to be charging.

Are there import rates? Or do you guys make more than we do?

Then again, I'm probably going to drop $100 on the Duke Nukem Balls of Steel Edition...

That sucks for you.

...and I mean that, in a totally non-condescending manner, really I do.
