NO! 1337 speak is used for humorous intent or parodist intent like in Arby n the Chief or lolcats... stupid humor yes but it still gives me and many others a laugh. Texting speak or whatever you want to call it is just dumb fucking teens butchering the English language into to something completely incomprehensible so they don't have to put in a few extra letters... it's retarded... just get used to how things are spelled instead of trying to change them

No, they are not the same. True 1337 uses absolutely none of the letters found in the English alphabet. Textspeak borrows very little from 1337, but mostly is shorthand and abbreviations.

Here is the difference.

It took me 3 minutes to try and figure that out. I think I lost brain cells.

Wow, that teacher really pisses me off. And she wrote a paper on it...? That's giving 1337speak/txtspeak way too much attention, if you ask me.

Not the same but both need the same thing.

Taking behind the old barn and putting them out of their misery with an axe.
No nailgun then?

Um, forgive my ignorance but what is the purpose or point of leetspeak? Is it just a meme that caught in or is there some reason that people use it, i.e. so that they can speak in code without being understood by those not in the know?

Is it called Leet to imply that only the elite few can use it?

A Nailgun wouldn't be enough fun. Hacking to tiny pieces would make me feel like the English language was slowly restoring itself back to normal.

Text is to save money on text messages and then for lazy people on games/msn/forums etc. Elite speak is for people who think they're cooler and smarter than everyone else by acting like a tool. No logic if you ask me.

I remember over 10 years ago when the internet was used mainly by smart people and actual computer nerds lovers. Now it's just open to any gimp with 2 fingers and a subscription to Warcraft.
