Do console gamers not get thirsty? Or need to pee.

I can see where MMO's can cause problems, no identifiable 'breaks' between gameplay, no way to pause once you've started a dungeon or raid, and massive potential to lose progress if something happens while you're away.

You can feel when your eyes are getting tired, or the couch just stops being comfortable, that's a pretty good hint that it's time to go see what everyone else it up to or grab a drink.

I just don't see how someone can really sit there for that long.

I don't play as much as I used to, and when I do, it's around 2 hours or less. My eyes get tired of it, unless I'm really into it--which I hardly ever am anymore. I also exercise almost everyday, so I don't think I've got much to worry about.

I'm fairly sure Guild Wars did something like that where every hour it would say about taking a break and if you stayed logged in for 4 hours(?) straight then it would kick you off

I'm against turning off the system after a few hours by design.

I mean, what about people who are taking turns or people at a party? One person out of millions is not enough of a reason to justify annoying others.

Hell hath no fury like parents desperately trying to lay blame for an act of God.

They have my condolences, but I desperately hope this changes nothing.

...Having said that, come Skyrim & Diablo 3, I'll likely expire...

Played for 15 hours on both Friday & yesterday, but normally it'd be about 0-4 hours a day. It all depends on what there is to do.

I ALWAYS get up in between rounds to get drinks, or go to the bathroom. By the time I've played for an hour I've gotten up at least 4 or 5 times. Idk how this kid died, especially since he was playing Halo. I can't sit down and play that game at all, don't have the patience to put that much effort into killing just one guy, let alone a whole team.

How can you NOT get up every once in a while? I mean, I go at it sometimes, for hours and hours, but i still have to pee. And eat. And since i don't have a toilet and fridge in my living room, I have to get up.

All of you people must have iron-bladders or something o_O

I would probably say I hit the double figures on a day off. I also take breaks, go to the gym 4 times a week and take a swim in the community pool daily. It's quite easy to fit in when you're awake 16 hours and asleep for 8...

This is just an extreme case and the media loves to generalise the rest to extreme cases because it gets headlines and most importantly, money...

I would go on 16 hour WoW stretches from time to time, but I would get up every few hours to stretch, walk around, piss, etc. People need to game responsibly.

The Sun said:
"Games are fun and once you've started playing it's hard to stop. Kids all over the country are playing these games for long periods - they don't realise it could kill them," [David Staniforth] told The Sun.
A good book is hard to stop reading too, but I have a feeling if this kid died while on the 26th hour of a Harry Potter bender this story wouldn't exists.

... but I guess can't sue since there is a warning in many games to "take a break" every once in a while.

He isn't suing because he isn't a douchebag American (who, let's face it, are notorious for being sucked into the lawsuit culture) who thinks everything is someone else's fault. He has no reason to sue anybody, and no desire to, and he has no issue with Microsoft, XBox or any other games console. He's raising awareness because it needs to be made clear that shit like this can happen, not because he couldn't suckle on the Microsoft-killed-my-son cash-cow.

Oh, and here is the article from a less tabloid-style source, because places like The Sun tell stories, not news.

Don't worry it's not going to change anything for the industry, jumping to such rash conclusions isn't going to get us anywhere. If those sorts of assumptions were right, they would have banned the FPS after the Columbine Massacre.

Also, about 4+ hours a day on my days off, although this is split up between annoying chores like "cleaning" and "eating".

I'm going to turn twenty in just a few short days... Does this mean I should STOP PLAYING VIDEO GAMES OR I'LL DIE?! :O

But seriously, breaks are good. Seems like common sense. I get tired of sitting in one place for TOO long also. Self control seems to be a dwindling force in the world. Blaming the medium itself for this unfortunate incident is like blaming video games when they cause an epileptic to seize after he/she sees all the unskippable seizure warnings that show when they turn on their game.

" Be afraid, this is going to change things,"

No its not. Going by that retard logic they should have warnings on chairs that tell you to not sit on them for too long.
