Although I think it's a bit too early to tell, I think Portal 2 is going to win it hands-down. It's an absolutely fantastic game. It's like what Half-Life 2 was to Half-Life.

By this logic many JRPGs, MMOs, strategy games, racing games, fighting games, and sports games are also frauds. Or I could go with the explanation that companies have found set ups that a certain contingent of players enjoy and will pay for games using similar set ups, thus the company produces more of those games so there really is no actual fraud involved. But that would make too much sense. My personal taste is LAW. DOWN WITH JRPGS!

I refuse to really pick until these games COME OUT!

But, for the games that have recently been realeased,
I am caught between Portal 2 and Crysis 2.
Portal 2 is just awesome (I just recently got it) but Crysis 2 really steped into a deminition which has not been preformed to my knowledge...

Seriously- Crysis 2 had an impact on me no game has given me before. It shows that technology, while it may be the greatest thing ever, ruins lives, it breaches the seperation of human and God, as man can become an unstopable war machine, for the price of his own mortal soul. It brings out every aspect of war and distruction rarely thought of by other games. The story, though not the longest, was absolutly great.

LA Noire. Well I am hoping that it turns out to be another GTA IV not another RDR (such a fucking dissapointment).
Interesting. I'm at least as excited for the game as you are no doubt, but I would flip flop the two games there.

But opinionslol am I right?

LA Noire, Skyrim, and Portal 2 would be my guess for possible winners. Mass Effect 3 and Minecraft would be guesses at making a top 5 (though a indie snub wouldn't surprise me). Arkhum City could easily get into the nominees list, as could quite a few others that will come out much later, but I struggle to imagine they would be capable of beating Portal 2, which I would argue is the bar to beat currently.

However, an open world cowboy game won last year. I expect the unexpected.

I say that unless Naughty Dog shits the bed something fierce, UC3 is a shoe in. UC2 was a rare, flawless game that had BOTH amazing single and multiplayer. If UC3 is even close to that quality it will rape the rest of this year's crop. The only real threat is if Mass Effect 3 has multiplayer as well as an equally good SP. Have high hopes for Brink though as well. It's a long shot but if it's as cool as it looks, and UC3 is not as good as 2, then just maybe.

Black Ops: call of the dead: freddie, buffy etc, I know it's dlc, but hey it'll be the first game i've seen where you can shoot George Romero dead again. Or buffy gets nailed by a zombie threesome.

Rage, lets face it Bethseda have been red hot (excluding new vegas which technically is obsidian anyway) a mixture of borderlands, fallout and the running man gets my vote.

Skyrim; looking forward to it, but for the porn title, any form of rim, should remain in the adult section.

Sports, racing and fighting games are all like that
Strategy games usually have vastly different play stiles. You wouldn't say Starcraft is a clone of Civilization.
JRPG's have unique stories (that all involve androgynous teenagers killing god) But they're all different in one way or another. it's easy to tell the difference between Final Fantasy 7 and Tales of the Abyss.
Making an MMO that's not WOW has got to be the dumbest thing a developer can do. (No Bioware, don't do it!)

But new developers flooding the market with anything other than FPS clones

It's not like I'm saying "I don't like FPS so they shouldn't exist."
My rant is closer to "FPS games are guaranteed huge profits so that's the only thing developers make."
Everyone's making CoD or GoW knockoffs in the name of a quick buck INSTEAD of innovating.

If there was some innovation in the AAA market developers could knock themselves out making shitty insubstantial FPS games but more and more devs are migrating towards CoD than away from it.

If that's what consumers want, then give it to them. When they get tired of it, they'll come up with something new. Just because you don't like what those consumers like doesn't make the developers bad for tailoring their games to that audience.

Your point is broken.
I am part of that consumer base, am I the only one that wants something interesting in a game?

Does it bother you that 90% of all the games available on the 360 can be described as either "sequel" or "clone" or "rushed out cash-in"

I Mean look at the quarter 1 predictions for Game of the Year

Portal 2=Sequel
Minecraft=knockoff
Mass Effect 3=knockoff and sequel
Uncharted 3=knockoff and sequel of a knockoff
Killzone 3=knockoff and sequel
Dragon Age 2=sequel and rushed out cash-in
Battlefield 3=sequel and knockoff

even the more popular wright-ins

L.A. Noire= knockoff
Skyrim= sequel
Batman Arkham City= Sequel
All of them are sequels except for Catherine and I honestly couldn't tell you what that game's about. I'm looking forward to playing it.

Do you get what I'm saying?
The games industry has stagnated and lots of the blame lies on the CoD's and the GTA's and the GoW's.
I just want to see something new for fucks sake!
