Escapist seems to be going back to the roots of gaming... actually loving games and gamers.

And the new content creators, will hopefully deliver in some way, else they still got Yahtzee, which was what brought me here for all the years, just never got me to make a forum user though, until now.

I hope not. I love it here especially in the forums but I do like Zero punctuation too. But like others said, it is a bit too early for any doomsday thinking.

Can't predict the little guys, but of Yahtzee, LoadingReadyRun, and No Right Answer, I'd predict that LRR will be the next ones to bail out.

I think LRR would have left by now if they wanted to leave.

People keep going on about how they have cut back on their stuff here, but in reality, they have just cut back on that kind of content period. They do streams now, and a whole plethora of podcasts. They don't put considerably more on their other venues.

I wouldn't mind for the old guard to pack up their stuff and leave at this point. Their salt is getting a little tiring. I mean, I get it. Salt is a flavour enhancer, but enough is enough... My poor stomach is getting upset, guys. :'c

Nah, it's just going through a change. But the warnings and linkedin postings from different site staff has to be lighting some kind of fire under the asses of the corporate overlords. I've seen a few changes, not as many as some of you, but they've always just been changes. Bizarrely, the forums always tend to retain the same general "feel" over the 3 plus years I've been lurking the place, despite the massive changes in the userbase. But we still see new faces, most of them are nice people who play by the rules, and there's still no other forum I'd rather take part in, so there'll be no doomsaying from me.

All this "salt" talk is starting to get really fucking irritating. Some of us have valid grievances and I personally don't appreciate having them belittled like that. Using your logic the old guard has been dealing with non-stop "salt" from GG for the past 6 months.

Has "Third Impact" happened yet? No? Then, I'm sure we're all going to be fine...

Oh, you mean the site itself... Well, just like the conclusion to the Rebuild movies, just because it seems to be ending on a bad note does not mean that's how it's going to go down because we have yet to see it's climatic conclusion in the [pending] fourth movie...

Man, come on. Baiting people isn't exactly a good way to make anyone actually want to listen to your viewpoint.

I might think some older posters have been melodramatic about the state of the site myself, but I can also acknowledge there are reasons for them to be concerned.

And seeing "salt" used as a term on this site so often is so goddamn weird. After seeing it regularly in FGC (fighting game community) streams for years, I'm definitely familiar with it. But the reactions to it being used here are...sort of weird. And sometimes hilarious. Though that's not exactly related to anything going on in this thread.

I think we should make 2015 the year we get rid of pointless hyperbole.

Also not that is really matters but I meant to vote no on the poll but accidentally hit yes (stupid phone).

Now you're just making me want to watch some Salty Bets.

Most entertaining twitch stream ever conceived (besides the OG Twitch Plays Pokemon).

I haven't watched much Salty Bets in a long time, but I was watching Twitch Plays Pokemon a few months ago for a few weeks straight playing Pokemon Battle Revolution 2.

It's still pretty hilarious, to be sure. But at this point I'm just waiting until they go through an actual Pokemon game again.

The Escapist needs to have staff battle each other in games on stream while users can bet their virtual smackeroons on the results. IT'S BRILLIANT.

edit: had to make a bunch of tiny edits because it's late and I'm tired.

Have you seen the Helix fighter someone made for MUGEN (and by extension Salty Bets)? It's a fucking masterpiece.

Oh good, I'm not the only one that noticed this term cropping up on the forums all of a sudden, did we get a bunch of new posters from another forum or what? I have never seen salty used outside of competitive circuits, largely fighting games and MOBAs.

Always seemed like a slightly self-defeating way to complain about other people's behavior. Every time I see it used it feels like a really whiny way to whine about other people whining, and that's just too much whining for my taste. Maybe that's just me though.

Nay, I can't say I have. But it sounds...interesting. Yes, that's the word. Now I've gotta go watch Salty Bets.

Fappy, we need to stop derailing so more people can say The Escapist is DOOOOOOOOOOOOMED.

Man, I derailed a thread by talking about my penis today. I'm on a roll.

Well, used in the context of these forums, it seems like a really odd and very bait-y thing to say. Especially considering the general nature of these forums in comparison to your average Twitch stream where everyone's just fucking around and saying whatever they want (which is an environment I do enjoy from time to time). There is a certain expectation for more developed communication here, so it just feels so out of place to use such a term.

I mean, you'd think people would have started using it sooner, to be honest. The people who are using it most now on the forums seem to have just learned the term. The overuse of it feels a bit silly.

It is funny to see the reactions of people who have no idea what the term means, though.

There has been and will probably continue to be a big shift in the Escapist's audience, and it will take a while to build up reliable content contributors to the level of what they were in the site's heyday. I think it will survive though.

I'm going to claim that the Escapist is doomed in order to make them leap into action to prevent this.
