So with Gears of war and Resident Evil V third person shooters have become more valid competition for first person shooters, which of the two do you prefer?

I don't generally like shooters, but, when push comes to shove, it's all about 1st person.

third person. If i have to choose between disembodied hands and actually seeing their cool space marine armor then i choose to see them.

I'm an RTS guy. I prefer ordering other people to shoot, and avoid getting my hands dirty.

Third Person. You can see more, and though it may not be "realistic", it's more fun to see character models than just their hands.

Third, as it's more likely to have a bit of platforming. I like platforming.
Gameplay wise, it's a pretty tough call, but I grew up with Crash and Spyro and whatnot, so it feels better seeing the back of someone's head rather than just their hands.

Third person, I've come to like that whole "compensates for the lack of peripheral vision" thing.

Every now and then I don't mind going to third person (R6V) but I definitely prefer first person.

Maybe 2nd person is gaming in 2/.5-D? Like Contra, Ikaruga, Vectorman, Gunstar Heroes, and all other manner of shmups?

That's what my vote would go to. Long live shmups!!!

It's a 2nd Person Shooter!

Honestly it depends on the game, the situation within the game, and the quality of implementation. 1st Person is definitely the best way to avoid crappy camera but I couldn't image heavily cover-based gameplay working in 1st Person.

Wouldn't a second person shooter be a first person shooter where you control the guy who kills the character who's eyes you see through?
