Poll: 3D movies in cinemas

So, I noticed more and more movies are becoming 3D in cinemas.

I have a problem with this. (The problems below might differ from country to country.)
- We are being forced to watch 3D. There isn't a normal version.
- We are being forced to pay more for 3D.
- A lot of 3D movies aren't actually (shot in) 3D.
- The cinemas are using cheap ass 3D glasses.
- I still don't see much of a difference except for specific scenes made for 3D.

Now I have watched Final Destination 3D. That movie had awesome 3D effects. Resident Evil: Afterlife is suppose to have great 3D effects also. But all other movies I have seen have disappointing 3D effects.

I see 3D as a fad in movies right now. It seems like every other movie right now is using 3D as an attempt to get ticket sales. It kind of bugs me.

But I wish that more movies would use "real" 3d not "fake" 3d

I hate 3D with a burning passion, mainly because it doesn't and never will work for me. I've got lazy eye and as a result I have little (read: no) depth perception because my eyes are not fused, I can focus with one at a time, and the other is strictly peripheral vision for me. I hate the notion that I have to pay more for some movies to see them in theater using a gimmick that doesn't work for me.

It's this shit that has pretty well killed going to the movies for me.

I've watched....2 movies with it I guess.

I watched Avatar in 3D, after watching it in 2D. That was kinda cool, but mostly because I already knew the movie and could just lose myself in visual impressions.

Then I watched Thor in 3D and I didnt like it.

3D in my experience makes everything darker and makes it harder to spot details. In addition its often hard to know where to focus your vision as everything keeps going back and forwards in the picture.

Normally I wouldnt mind it if 3D simply vanished. Its hard to tell stories and being subtle visually when everything stands out like a sore thumb. For some movies, its probably ok...but as a rule I prefer 2D. Especially when its a movie I've not seen before.

I have never seen a 3D movie, so I can't really comment on the differences. To be honest I don't see the increased price as a worthwhile spend. 3D doesn't really add much that a 2D film didn't have.

Totally depends on the movie and if it's done properly.
I saw Tron: Legacy on 3D Digital IMAX and that gave me a braingasm.
However Clash of the Titans 3D was unnecessary and looked like shit.

Don't know about your cinema, but mine shows most 3D movies in standard.

Probably to cover for the cost of the expensive reels and the glasses

Wait what? You complain that you have to pay more but you also say that the glasses are cheap? I figure your only options are; buy the 'designer' 3D glasses for an extra $10 and don't think about how much it would cost if they made everyone buy the designer glasses or don't by the designer glasses and withdraw your complaint about having to pay extra for regular glasses as that would be hypocritical. And I'm pretty sure they only was to distribute 3D glasses for the masses is to make disposable (though they can be re-used).

I said it depends on the movie. As people have said many times before, 3-D is just a gimmick, and not a step forward in cinema. Certain movies that are meant to take advantage of said gimmick are okay; they become like a special attraction at an amusement park. It's not perfect, but you can sit back, laugh, and have fun with it.

However, movies in which the 3-D gimmick is not meant to be the focus, and is instead advertised as an 'enhanced' version of the original, do not sit right with me. More often than not, 3-D ruins rather than enhances the experience in these cases.

I am willing to pay more for quality glasses. Actually, registered visitors (like me) should get the quality glasses.

Anyway... Either give me quality glasses or make 3D movies normal price. Now I have to pay extra for crappy glasses. Or even better, don't do 3D at all.

most of the time, I have found that 3D doesn't add anything to the film. Sometimes it looks kinda cool, and it works fairly well for animated films but most of thetime I can focus properly and feel like I'm missing details. I really hope that this fad dies down soon.

In 3D movies, it hurts my eyes to try and focus on anything besides the focal point of the 3D effect. This limits my ability to fully appreciate the film. I first noticed this in Avatar when the main character comes out of stasis in the spaceship and I couldn't look behind him at the surrounding environment.

Half blind in one eye so the 3D effect just doesn't work. More 2D please!

It depends what the film is. Those such as Avatar and Tron work with 3D very well, and it's almost integral. Even Resident Evil: Afterlife's 3D looked good although it was unnecessary.

However I saw the new Pirates of the Caribbean in 3D and...it did nothing. There are some films that just do not need to be in 3D - people just seem to be jumping on the bandwagon. I paid an extra £3 (damn Odeon) to see PoC and 3D. Money wasted. Pft.

Also I now own three pairs of glasses as I keep forgetting them....

I pretty much hate 3D atm. Over here it's about a pound more but the ticket is already expensive to start of with (depending on where you watch it). While they do have 2D option however they start at a later time with is inconvenient for me to watch. Lastly after Avatar there is no other 3D film that is worth being in 3D.

I would love 3D movies if they would actually put some 3D effects in the movies. But no, most of the times we can watch half of the movie without the glasses on and when some 3D effects do come along most of them are just cheap tricks that have been used over and over again, nothing new whatsoever.
