depends on the movie, although it's annoying to see every other childrens movie doing 3d if it's not even being used to it's full potential.

I can for give that as long as we don't end up having romance comedies in 3d *shudders*.

It depends on what I'm seeing in 3D. If it's one of those 3D experiences you get in theme parks I don't mind the 3D but I don't like actually seeing 3D movies because It's mostly used as a gimmick. They slap them on films that people are going to see in groups (e.g. Family Movies and Horror)I can however look past this if the film itself is good and dosen't sacrifice story just for spectacle.

I don't mind...it doesn't bother me. It's like butter on the popcorn, for some people it really REALLY ruins the taste...for me it doesn't matter, I'm still getting the tasty popcorn and a drink with it...win win for me. Now the PRICE of buttered popcorn, don't get me started (yes that was part of the metaphor)

I dislike it, poor long range vision so I need glasses. On top of those glasses are more glasses which don't really do much to add any depth to the film and it adds an extra £2-£4 which isn't even including the glasses

The worst thing is, most films don't even use the 3D effects to do more than add a very slight depth to it which isn't apparent enough to warrant double ticket price and irritating glasses

I recently watched Thor in 3D and was largely underwhelmed. I figured the good bits in 3D would be the big fights but it was like the cameras couldn't focus on the action with things blowing up and flying everywhere in extreme blur. I dunno.

I see 3D as a fad in movies right now. It seems like every other movie right now is using 3D as an attempt to get ticket sales. It kind of bugs me.
I agree a director should be able to achieve his goal without cheap effects if you need 3d to make the viewer feel involved in the film your a poor director and the film is poor

I have never seen a 3D movie, so I can't really comment on the differences. To be honest I don't see the increased price as a worthwhile spend. 3D doesn't really add much that a 2D film didn't have.
You realize you just said "I have no experience on the matter, but there isn't any substantial difference between 3d and 2d"

OT: If it's 3d in IMAX with the nice glasses that are big enough to fit comfortably over my glasses, I'll go see it and my eyes will orgasm throughout the movie, but if it's one of the regular theatres with the crappy glasses then it's pretty annoying :/

My problems with 3d movies are that they are more expensive, the glasses are annoying and uncomfortable(doesn't help I'm already wearing glasses), and haven't made my movie going experience any better.

So, I noticed more and more movies are becoming 3D in cinemas.

I have a problem with this. (The problems below might differ from country to country.)
- We are being forced to watch 3D. There isn't a normal version.
- We are being forced to pay more for 3D.
- A lot of 3D movies aren't actually (shot in) 3D.
- The cinemas are using cheap ass 3D glasses.
- I still don't see much of a difference except for specific scenes made for 3D.

Now I have watched Final Destination 3D. That movie had awesome 3D effects. Resident Evil: Afterlife is suppose to have great 3D effects also. But all other movies I have seen have disappointing 3D effects.
Have you seen Thor, Tron or Avatar in 3D? I didn't get to see Avatar in 3D (dammit!) but I've seen the former 2 and no others. Thor was great except for one shot where he's lying on the ground and the only 3D texture is his hair, which was of course totally goofy. Tron was spectacular in 3D.

For the most part, it's just the waxing (or is it waning?) of a fad. You're right, most "3D" movies simply tack it on during post, which looks like ass. The fact that 3D TVs are selling at the rate that they are tells me that the world still has plenty of rich dummies. But my rule of thumb is, if it isn't filmed in 3D, and if I don't have respect at least for the director's cinemaphotgraphic capabilities, I won't pay the extra cash for the Rivers Cuomo glasses.

3D in Tron worked well. That's the kind of thing 3D should be doing if it has to exist. But otherwise, no.
And why the hell was Real Life 2D but the Virtual World 3D? What sense does that make? The only reason for that is because most of it was on The Grid so they had to make that bit 3D.

3D and me have a strange relationship. I've seen movies in 3D that i felt ripped off for paying an extra buck, I've seen other movies(tangled) where i would have payed $5 extra for the 3D. I've never gone to a 3D movie expecting to be blown away by it. and i often laugh because in my film class my teacher had a giant poster of a big new york movie theatre from the 1950s (?) where all the people in it where wearing the old style 3D glasses.

recently though my movie going efforts were thwarted by 3D. As of right now me and wife are saving to move into a new house, as such the lowest tickets automatically win. however all the reasonable time slots are filled with 3D movies at our local cineplex so until theaters start showing movies for reasonable prices at reasonable times, i don't get to watch xmen first class.

oh well we went to putt-putt on our date and it was awesome.

In some very specific cases 3d is awesome - avatar

In most cases its just to make you spend more money on the ticket

But some movies the 3d just kills the fun- the new pirates of the Caribbean movie- you cant tell whats going on because the 3d specs are tainted and 95% of the movie happens at night

At my local cinemas, 3D movies are still the exception, not the norm. So, I like that. I've seen a few movies in 3D. Even the "good" ones. It SO isn't worth it. I have to weary glasses of dubious sanitation on top of my regular glasses, only to watch a movie at like half brightness, with a few 3D effects that I COMPLETELY STOP NOTICING WITHIN FIVE MINUTES.

I keep getting the impression that the only people who like 3D, are TV/screen manufacturers and movie studios. The average consumer doesn't care. For good reason.

I don't mind it if the film was made in 3d. But the majority aren't. For example Thor. Thor was 3d in Asgard and Jotunheim but, in the human world there wasn't any 3d at all. Considering the majority of the movie is set in the human world. It was a waste of money paying £1.50 extra to see it in 3D.

Generally I don't like 3D, it's a massive gimmick. I think it only works well on films which were originally shot in 3D, instead of just having the effects added on in post production. However, that said, if it means it gets more people into the cinema and gets more money back into the industry then whatever. I just don't appreciate being charged ridiculous ticket prices for it, especially if I kept the glasses from last time :p

I'm not sold on cinema 3D. It's poor quality in general.

3D TVs with active shuttering 9or whatever it's called) offer much better quality. I watched the new Tron film in 3D at my friend's house. Oh wow.

The TV versions (at least 2 different brands anyway) of the glasses fit better over my own glasses, too.

I've never been "forced" to watch a movie in 3D. I'm going to keep asking for more 3D until I see some male full frontal nudity in 3D.

Wax on, wane off (think lunar cycles).

Avatar was pretty cool in 3D also. But that movie was already one visual orgasm to begin with. Tron was okay in 3D (nothing special). It had a few interesting scenes. Thor, I didn't even noticed it was in 3D.
