I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I bought a 3DS, and I do genuinely enjoy the system. Granted a few more games would be a nice thing but hey, Nintendo have hardly been on top of their game recently.
So, to the point. I woke up today about to head out to Q-con when I got an email with some news in it. The most prominent of which was "Nintendo confirm 3DS XL for August". Why Nintendo? Why? The 3DS is trouncing the PS Vita, why make such a rookie mistake? During the days of the fat DS when sales started to dip, they released the LITE and the XL and the DSi, and this was enough to stimulate some interest while bringing their numbers back up into the money printing region. But 3DS is still in top form (sales wise) so releasing a reworked model only serves to annoy the general populace who bought the regular 3DS.
The biggest problem I have with the rework is this: 3DS games, are ugly.
Now giving credit where credit is due, the remastered Zelda, Star Fox and Resident evil games all look great, but for the most part the games on the system are fairly poor by today's standards. So making the screen larger is going to cause stretching, making the already poor games, look worse. And everyone can agree that while graphics aren't the most important part of a a game they do serve an important role. Would you enjoy Resident Evil if the textures where poor? What about Splinter Cell with terrible blacks? It's a terrible idea in my opinion and i'm interested in hearing yours, if you feel so inclined to share =]

Pretty much what I thought when I saw it, I think they're saving it for the Super 3DS XXXL that they'll release in a few months. This is why I never buy Nintendo handhelds until the end of their lifespan.

If it had a second analog stick I would be pissed because that make my 3ds obsolete. so Nintendo put themselves in a corner with that.

I don't care since I have not bought a 3DS yet. Also no this doesn't mean I will now buy the larger version since I like to fit it in mu pocket. They should however had mention this in E3.

EDIT- Ok I may consider it since it isn't too expensive and the battery life is longer. Still I planning to buy one this Christmas so chances are they may release another version anyway.

It's fine, let them keep making and released 3DS's. Just like with the regular DS, I'll just stick to Gen 1 3DS.

If I do buy a 3DS (as pretty much all of my friends keep pestering me too), it's gonna be the first model. I don't care for having a bigger screen on my portable gaming devices.

It's a way to shift more units is all. Like the Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Advance SP, Game Boy Advance Micro and Nintendo DSXL.

I think it's more of a gimmick than a need to replace mine! I like mine... it fits in a particular pouch on my bag nicely, and goes everywhere with me... so useful!

I don't mind too much that there is a larger one... the battery thing has never bothered me or been a problem yet, so I'll stick to mine! I will get the 2nd stick though!

Yeah, those damn rookies.

During the days of the fat DS when sales started to dip, they released the LITE and the XL and the DSi, and this was enough to stimulate some interest while bringing their numbers back up into the money printing region.
This was not the case with the Lite.

Sales figures have been steadily down of late. There have been a couple spikes, but it's not in "top form." It still sells well, but having already established The market now isn't all that different from the DS Lite.

The biggest problem I have with the rework is this: 3DS games, are ugly.
I agree.

So some people are upset because their new system just got replaced by a slightly better iteration. That happens all the time. Literally all the time, you don't have to buy it. Simply wait until their is a change significant enough to get the next upgrade. It's like Apple, the next phone is always on its way, but you don't have to get it just because it's slightly better than yours.

On one hand, I see no problem with the increased screen size, and I'm super happy about the increased battery life (that alone would make me buy this over the original).

But, on the other hand, why isn't there a second analog stick? It was baffling that there wasn't one on the original, but with the release of the second analog add-on, having it being worked into the next model is only logical.

I think it's stupid. It's too big. Big screens are cool, but these kind of things are supposed to be carried in your pocket. The 3DS was already large but this new thing is massive. And why the hell doesn't it have a 2nd thumbstick? That's what everyone is asking for. No-one asked for a bigger console which is impractical to carry around. Wasted effort, Nintendo.
