Sharp have launched a 5 inch netbook. PC-Z1 Netwalker.

article [http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/08/27/sharp_linux_arm_netbook/]

Do you think there is a limit to how small things like netbooks should go.

Do you like this idea or do you think it would interfere with usability?

Useable, but I wouldn't get one. Seems a bit ridiculous to me. Buttons would get mashed, and I don't like using a stylus.

looks easy to use, I think it's for people that travel a lot, and check their email during lunch or something.
but for regular people, no.

Surely you'd just be better off getting a good Smartphone? Would do all the same jobs, be smaller, and look a lot less shit than that Sony thing.

Whats with electronic companies making all their electronics tiny.

Seriously how am I supposed to watch videos on such a tiny screen?

It looks like the screen is more or less the size of an ipod touch, and you can watch videos on that alright.

And of course it's only available in Japan. Dammit...

I already hit at too many keys at once when I type. I'd be hitting like four at once with that.

If an iPhone screwed a netbook, this is the mutant child that would emerge. Utterly pointless.

Looks perfectly usable, but a complete waste of cash.

It falls in the no mans land between a 3G phone and a proper laptop, for what it will cost why not have a good phone. Or save up extra and buy a laptop, these netbooks never have neough functionality to justify the cost.

Looks like the bastard love child of a calculator and a Motorola RAZR.

I disapprove.

The equation is VERY simple kids:

Optimum key size for effective, consistent, and accurate activation

x

Optimum number of keys to get the entire alphabet + punctuation + numbers + controls WITHOUT needless "shift/function/alt" to use

+

Mouse nipple or tacking pad

~

Roughly equal to the size of screen necessary to avoid your eyeballs popping out of your head as you attempt as view what is on the screen.

DONE.

These are the components necessary for a HUMAN to use the device - EVERYTHING ELSE, can get smaller. You can make it thinner, you can improve how small the harddrive, motherboard, memory, and processor are, you can reduce fan size relative to durability and increase in effective airflow...

YOU DO NOT REDUCE SCREENS AND KEY SIZES.

It isn't our fault that we have big hands!

*weeps into his massive pancake hands as he finishes typing on his 25 inch notebook*
