Just to get things strait, I've always liked zombies, and vampires too when they're portrayed properly. When the zombie craze first started several years back I was all over that shit, I own a copy of The Zombie Survival Guide and have seen pretty much every movie with the words "of the Dead" in the title. However, lately I feel like this obsession with the undead has just gotten plain out of hand. The horde of zombie movies and video games that comes out each year is starting to become as overwhelming as the undead themselves, and I won't go into specifics but vampires have simply been run into the ground. What I'm saying here is that they've both been done to death. What's worse I feel that creative ideas are being turned down by the producers in the entertainment industry in favor of sticking [a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1611224/"]vampires[/a] and [a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2265165/"]zombies[/a] anywhere they can find a place for them.
How about a law banning any new zombie/vampire related junk for at least half a decade? I'm not saying we should do away with movie monsters in general, just ones that are clear ripoffs of those two. There are plenty of things out there just as awesome/scary that never get made into movies.

EDIT: The thread has convinced me to let vampires off the hook, it was wrong to put them into the same category as zombies. Castlevania fans can put down their torches and pitchforks.

Any evidence at all to support that?

I'll give the same advice I give to anyone who is sick of something. Avoid it!!!
It's very simple If you don't like movies and games with zombies and vampires in them, then don't watch or play them.

Leave them for everyone else who does still want to play a genuinely good vampire slaying game.

I'm ok with banning zombies, but not vampires. Still holding out for a worthy successor to Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Vampires are so damn interesting when done right.

If someone can't be bothered to come up with unique material, limiting a handful of the fallbacks is not really going to help. At best, you just force those movie makers to reuse slightly less popular memes.

It's just a trope, you can just ignore it if you don't like it, for example I just ignore most of it but if something is good like let's say... actually I haven't watched any recent zombie or vampire films, and the most recent Zombie game I've played was CoD WaW, and that was when that was new and only for 3 hours, and it was a lot of fun, but anyway just ignore it if it doesn't interest you, it's worked for me, because I've only played 2 maybe 3 Modern Day setting shooters, I'm not tired of them, just as I'm not tired of zombies or vampires because I only pay attention to what interests me, like Daybreakers, I just remembered that movie, and it was awesome, see this is why you're idea is silly.

There is the World of Darkness MMO that's being developed.

And OP, you have to agree, Vampire, does good...well, vampires. Why would you want that banned? And Unhollowed Metropolis had a pretty cool take on zombies[footnote]zombie apocalypse hits, people repel it and still fight remaining zombies. One thing they do is to put zombie baits on the railways and the regular trains between cities clear them. The trains then get hosed down when they get close to the city.[/footnote]

No, we shouldn't make laws to cater to your tastes in media, that's just nonsense.
It isn't about the ethics of creating the law in the first place, I know it would be a fairly absurd law to pass in real life, would likely be unconstitutional too and would be a slap in the face to the free market as a whole.

What I'm really trying to get at is whether you'd like creators/developers to avoid making more zombie games, at least for a little while. The actual means of doing so isn't important. It'll never happen, but if you could make it happen, would you?

Nope nope nope nope...

Speaking as a wild Pittsburghian, the zombie phenomenon is undead and therefore everlasting.

And as a fan of Hellsing, Legacy of Kain, and ABRAHAM LINCOLN...we shall not do away with the vampires unjustly.

Just ban Twilight and their fake vamps.

I said that I enjoy games/movies with zombies, I own many, I've probably played RE4 half a dozen times. If I want to play a new one I doubt I'd have trouble finding one in the enormous [a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_zombie_video_games"]back-catalog[/a] of them that currently exists. I just think there's enough already, more than enough. That's what this was supposed to be about.
Obviously you disagree, fair's fair.

Yeah, I'm in agreement. Considering we are FINALLY getting some form of new Legacy of Kain media (even if it is a fucking reboot...) would make this a REAL dick move on anyone's part. Plus banning Vampires while Alucard exists is a TERRIBLE idea. Trust me, you don't wanna know what he did to the last guy who tried that...

I understand that there's good reason for why they'd want to do that, but it's hardly what I expected. (They would only need one more game to wrap the story up all nice and neat in a bow.) Explain this reboot thingy.

Not many details are known yet but....well, i'll let this article explain it: http://www.vg247.com/2012/03/20/rumour-crystal-dynamics-working-on-soul-reaver-reboot/

It's still more or less in the rumor phase but, I'm seriously holding out some slimmer of hope for it...but i swear if Michael Bell and Simon Templeman aren't called back to do Raziel and Kain respectively, I'm not even gonna give the damned thing a chance (No! Bell and templeman effectively MADE those characters and as long as they're still around i see no reason to let them reprise the roles. As far as I'm concerned, anyone else they chose to voice Kain and Raziel would be a downgrade)

See, I'm still a huge zombie fan, and would actually like to see new zombie films/games, but only because 99.9% of zombie-related movies and games are just absolute shit that have absolutely nothing to do with the zombie theme. It makes me sad to see people so sick of zombies when real zombies never really got a chance. Real zombie media is still pretty rare. Most of what everyone has gotten sick of is just taking whatever bullshit action plot and plopping in some zombies as the faceless things to get mindlessly shot and blown up.

"What do you mean, "survival?" Just use your assault rifle! But be careful, those zombies can run really fast!"

"Conflict with inner demons and the uglier side of human nature? By that do you mean... EXPLOSIONS????"

"An agonizingly drawn out and contemplative confrontation with the inevitability of death? Hmm... well, we do have a brain-dead little kid who will never stay in the fucking house. That counts, right?"

Ugh.

I feel like such a hipster.

I liked the undead before they were cool.

Come on ! Zombies and leeches are fun and always will be.
It would be nice to redefine genres (i'd like vampires to become fearful monsters once again), but ban them ? Naaaaaaaaaaah. :]

Um, I love True Blood. So no thanks to that. And I also loved throwing zombies and Burt Reynolds into Saints Row 3, so that makes it just a hands down no thanks on that ban.
