So escapists, you know this dilemma. Whether it be robots from the future who want to serve even older robots, or little girls with slugs in them and giant scuba diver bodyguards, it's usually the same question. Kill and solve your problem, or attempt a less violent approach.

So here's my situation:

I have a beast of a cockroach trapped in my sliding door. If I close the door fully, it's little buggy life is forfeit, and I have some gunk to clean up. I can open the door slightly and try to lever it outside, but run the risk of the little bastard getting back in again.

Please bear in mind, we've been going through this hunt for a few days now, and I'm a little pissed at this little guy turning up in my small flat. It's not like I even have any food here.

Most of us, when it's pixels and numbers involved, automatically turn to the 'good guy' release and hope for the best policy. Then again, most of us faced with a bug would squish without remorse. Help me fellow escapists; is this little bug worth less than pixels, or do I hope for the best?

You need to think about the mess you'll clean up. Try and hurt it in a way it won't start running around but won't paint your walls. Then take the body with a napkin and toss it in the bin.
No mercy from me.

What he said, although I always flush bugs down the toilet.

Dispose of it and don't look back. But hey, if you're so inclined.. Have a little fun with the disposal...

I would normally let bugs live but a cockrotch might get back in and start laying eggs and once those things get started its hard to deal with so squish him.

Just kill the damn thing. If you let it go it'll just scuttle over to your neighbour's spot or even back into yours. Also, if the boot was on the other foot you can be damn sure it'd show you no mercy.

Neither.

Hit it with bug spray until it stops moving, then pick it up with a tissue and throw it in the bin.

If you don't have any, then crush the bastard and deal with the mess. Wouldn't want to wake up with him crawling across your face, like I have.

Kill it with fire. Last apartment I was in I made a deal with the roaches: I am scare shitless of you guys so if you don't let me see you, you can live. I only killed one.

You make a keen observation, but then again I have never seen a moral choice between killing or not killing an insect.

Remove it with something and make sure to have a box or something similar you can close (and is transparent) nearby so you can make it run inside it or just put it on top of him to cover all escape routes. That's what i do when i don't want to hurt something (like a moth) or to leave a mess after killed (spiders, which i throw in toilet and flush). BTW It'd be easier if you had a electric zapper thingy.

I like this, it is a cockroach, not some dangerous, violent creature. Just pick it up / put in box and throw it over a wall, it will be fine, you will be fine, no death, no mess.

I don't like killing things. Even things that supposedly deserve it. Hell, I usually go out of my way to release housefly's simply because I don't like killing them. Release the poor bugger.

I'd say let it free in most cases but this is a cockroach that would probably come right back in after you let it go. So try and find a way to dispose of it permanently without the traumatizing mess. Like flushing it down a toilet or something. Problem with that is you'd have to carry it there which would make me shit my pants, personally.

If you're taking the non violent approach, get it in a box and just bother to move out of your own garden before you take the lid off and fling the bugger as far as you can.
