I've been playing computer games for 20 years, well more than that if you count pong on the colecovision (the one with the rotary controllers anyway), and I'm 24.

I really cut back about just less than 10 years ago, so now I've got a PC which is tragically out of date and an original X-Box.

Oh and I started out on a C64 and remember when memory was measured in Kilobytes.

I've been gaming since 1983 when I was 3 years old & my Dad programmed games for me on our ZX Spectrum.

I've just started a Game Design & Development degree, after which I'm aiming to get a job in the industry, so I think I'll be gaming most of my life.

Although I am aware that because of the nature of the industry, there's a good chance it could leave me jaded & burnt out & make me want to give up gaming, especially if life also presents me with a better offer, an option to do something more altruistic & fulfilling with my time & skills.
That could also be something as simple as having to take a different job to raise & support a family with a woman I love.

Gaming is a passion of mine but I'm aware there are more important things in life.

I've been gaming since I was two years old and plan on enjoying it when I'm in the old folks home. Just hope the multinational conglomerate games companies don't ruin it.

Well i would love to stay a hardcore gamer but in all honesty stuff is a bit expensive and i cant afford to buy a $300-600 console every 5 years. I also am not a big PC game fan so i guess only time will tell.
You could always, I dont know, not buy the newest console on release?

Alot of the time I buy consoles three to four years after initial release, when the game library for it is worth looking into and the console price itself is much lower. I sometimes wait until the next generation before I buy up, as I did with my Gamecube and soon when I have the funds the xBox.

I have been gaming for 14 years since I was in Kindergarten! I really want to keep going strong, but if I need to take a break or if for some reason I get interested in something else I'll do what I need to.

The IBM 8081 was my first home gaming machine. A few memories remain of the TMNT arcade machine at TimeOut. ... Is that arcade company still around?

That was back in the mid-late 80's. Except for a slight gaming drought in the early 90's (only had a GameBoy when I lived in the UK) I've been a gamer to this day.

20-21 years and going strong!

I will never give up gaming. Never. In fact I really want to be an OAP who kicks ass at whatever game is in the hype at the time.

Not as old as some of you gamers. 13 years.

Been gaming almost 25 years and I see no end in sight. Thanks to the Wii and Guitar Heor, I got my wife into gaming. That and she can kick my ass at Super Mario 3.

EDIT: My gaming addition started on the Comodore 64 and Atari 6400

Well, based on now I don't see any reason to stop, so I think I'll keep playing. But, I chose Hope So because I don't know what the future will be like or what will happen to me, maybe something will cause me to stop. I don't like the sound of it, but, you know. Things change.

Hope so, but with the game originality and quality slowly going down, I may or may not. It still has plenty of time for redemption.

i still consider myself a gamer, but i've now entered the stage of LOTS of exams and homework and coursework of A levels (British national curriculum, 'advanced' level), and thus have been too busy to barely pick up a controller lately :'(

my first console was the N64, still have it and still love it :) (my OLDEST system, however, is an ORIGINAL [rarer!] Sega Master System II XD i got it from a car boot sale for £5 lol)

My overall enthusiasm for gaming has diminished a lot over the years. New games simply don't excite me the way they used to-- probably because my standards have increased at a faster rate than today's game quality.

Personally, I don't think that the future of gaming is very bright. The industry seems to have stagnated-- and, in my opinion, is running out of ideas... because we've already seen pretty much everything that makes for an interesting game.

You know when you start a relationship and you don't fart around her for a few months? Well I didn't play games for about a year untill I sliped back into them. Now she dosent seem to care; she's not thrilled about how much time I invest into them, but it's not like it is causing a rift between us. So, as long as it dosen't bother anybody, I will continue untill I get bored with them - which I occasionaly do.

I'll play games as long as I physically can. If they ever get the hang of true motion sensing control as opposed to the wanky, it sort of works effort that Nintendo put into the Wii, I'll even be able to play at least some video games if I get bad arthritis in my fingers. That's the only barrier I can see coming up some day, not being able to hit controller buttons or keyboard keys fast enough anymore. I guess there will always be turn based games like Warhammer, Final Fantasy and Age of Empires where you can take all the time you need to move your guys around and decide what you want them to do without getting wiped out by your opponent. As long as games like that are around, the only thing I can see stopping me from playing is becoming so senile or crippled that I simply can't control the console any more.
