I got my months issue of gameinformer a little while ago, and I saw Halo:Reach was the cover story. Apparently they've actually played some of the game, and it looks awesome. It looks like its a squad based, semi-class based shooter, with different armor types apparently doing different things. The pictures they have of the HUD seem to indicated that it will be much more similar to Halo:CE than the sequels, which makes sense, being a prequel and all.

One of the things mentioned was the return of...health packs! This, in addition to making the covenant actually speak their respective alien languages, is meant to bring back that sense of tension that halo had. In 2 and 3 we learned about the covenant and even played as them, which really took away all that made them cool. They were no longer the unknown alien aggressors that destroyed several human worlds, they were just a bunch of aliens being fooled by smarter aliens. There is also a new type of covenant soldier, the "Skirmisher" which looks like a cross between the elites and jackal, and they travel in packs and try to flank the player.

Since you apparently travel in a 6-man squad, the battles are also much larger. There will be up to 40 AI at a time and 20 vehicles. For reference, that is twice as many as Halo 3. There will also be new/removed/changed weapons and vehicles, a new assassination gameplay mechanic, completely retooled graphics, everything gets re-skinned, a much better story, and NO FLOOD!

I'm pretty excited for this game, and I know Yahtzee attracts all the Halo haters to this site, but I don't care. I think this game looks like it could be the best one yet, and I look forward to the multiplayer beta and the game itself in Fall.

EDIT- neutral option added. sorry for not having it in originally!

Bungie, I'm happy for you and Imma let you finish, BUT STOP MILKING HALO!
Since when is 6 games milking something?
Final Fantasy is on it's 14th game, Call of Duty is around it's 9th, but why is there so much more bitching for Halo then those? Is it because you dislike it? Is it because you enjoy hating popular things? Because if it is, then the "milking" isn't your problem.

OT: This game looks awesome, from what I saw. I'm excited for a new spin on the franchise.

Hooray, a Halo game I can be reasonably be excited for, other than an lower caliber RTS and a 6ish hour expansion pack.

You should have included a 'neutral' answer as well. Something like "Not really, but I might check it out".

Incidentally, that's the answer I would have chosen if it was there.

I'm not really a fan of the Halo series, mind, but Halo 3 was entertaining enough when I decided to check it out, though I probably won't get it immediately as I feel that having to pay a subscription fee to use online play is bullshit.

Yes, I'm a PC gamer, how could you tell?

I think it's because a lot of PC gamers criticise it for it's revolutionary introduction of good console controls that worked comparatively well for FPSes on consoles, and made it a pseudo-standard control setup. Before then, only a small handful of console FPSes played well.

Beyond that, the game is average, though. I guess PC gamers are sore because it's so popular even though there are/were better shooters available on the PC.

I do respect what it did for console gaming, though, even though there's better out there now.

Agreed, and Final Fantasy is only on it's 14th numerical sequel. Let's not go into all the Tactics (which I love dearly), Crystal Chronicles, Dissidias and such.

How could you be loosing track?

There's Halo 1, 2 and 3, then there's Halo Wars, the RTS outing. There's ODST, as well, which is set around the events of Halo 2.

As for Halo Reach, it's set before Halo 1. I THINK it takes place before Halo Wars too, but I'm not sure.

I'm looking forward to this but it isn't a must buy. It's a "Take a look around sometime after release, hoping to find it cheap then realise it will not go down in price in my area as most store are still flogging MW1 for £40" for me.

Because the Human-Covenant War was covered in Halo: CE and Halo 2, the Covenant disbanded in Halo 3, the aftermath of New Mombasa covered by ODST, the earlier battles of the Human-Covenant War covered by Halo Wars. Seriously, they're just milking this shit. I mean, fuck, there was only ONE MAJOR ENGAGEMENT AT REACH, which frankly is detailed in the Halo novels.

Yeah i would have liked a "Not completely woot, but I'll give it a go" option.
I'll try the Beta. Better have more than just multiplayer though. kinda want to get back to the story.

I guess I'd call myself a fanboy cause I know alot about it(more than the average gamer should) but I've been infatuated with the story.

But I'm not a "Halo R is the Greatest woot lol t-bag. All other games=gay you cockfag call of gay assholes" so what am I?
I like Halo but I just like other things more for decent reasons.

Yea, I wouldn't expect to see any price drops for this anytime soon. Halo 3 was being sold full price for atleast a full year, probably longer.

And I must say you have the greatest avatar ever.

yeah i didn't mind the halo games at all, played them with friends on nights that we had free, was good stuff to play with others, and since i've read the books i love the story about it, thats why i personally like the games, but gameplay wise it is average, which nothing wrong with that

yeah i understand your logic there, i'd agree on the "hate". i think its kinda silly but people are built to rage occasionally, so thats the rage i suppose of the decade

I believe it is about the Spartans and their destruction, apart from MC. That's what I've deduced with my amazing powers of reading a preview a while back deduction.

Yeah, I remember reading something about that. Reach was some outpost that stood between the Covenant forces and Earth; most of the Spartians were there, and died one way or another, along with the destruction of Reach itself.

I do dislike Halo, however it seems they're trying to make the right move in changing up the game play for the better. However I'm not going to like this game because from the first trailer it looks like it's going to have a squad with the same old classes (Tank, Rouge, Sniper ect.) but you can only play the all-around soldier that bores me to death from the old games.

EDIT: 1,000th post!..... and it's bashing Halo, shit
