Nocturne is the perfect jRPG, and I will believe that until Atlus comes out with something better. It has ruined me on most all other turn based combat.

Shadow of the Collossus is the perfect... something. I don't know what it is, but it's definitely something.

In truth, there is no perfect game, but I will regard the pinnacles of gaming in whatever genre as the perfect example of said genre until they are outdone.

Off the top of my head the only games I could comfortably list as perfect would be...

Portal
Link to the Past
Symphony of the Night

Try as I may, I can't find a flaw in any of them. Each is a paragon of their genre.

Perfection is a myth and an impediment to the furthering of greatness. The only reason the word exists is a clear example of the limits of our language: we couldn't think of anything better that could have happened. But of course, better will happen.

There are perfect games, but they only ever appeal to an extremely certain kind of person, take me for example, I find that Bioshock was perfect,as well as Dead Space, and expect the sequels to be brilliant as well.

Whereas my friend who only ever seems to play online finds Bioshock to be the worst game ever because, and i quote: "The story is shit and the guns are awful"
I mean obviously he's narrow minded but still a game can only be perfect to a certain set of people.
Bioshock's story is shit? What games does your friend play, I found the story to be deep and compelling.
As i said, he only looks for the multiplayer in a game and something to test his 'skills' in, so i guess he found Bioshock to be slow paced, probably because he used to play a bit of CounterStrike and Unreal Tournement, and has now moved to MW2
Oh, he likes fast-paced action games? That explains it. God forbid, he ever tried to play Silent Hill 2.

if there where a perfect game the gaming market would stop and we wouldn't want to buy anything other than the perfect game. we don't want one.

Here's are a few close to perfect games and i say that because of the versatility of how they can be played. Video and other formats
played solo
Played with friends (co-op or taking turns)
Played while drunk
Played while eating pizza
Played into the wee hours of... hey, is that the sun?
played and you and at least 1 other friend get into an argument.

Ahem:
Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Mario Party 4
RISK
Wolfenstein
Arcade Mario Bros.
Duck Hunt
Magic The Gathering
Chess
Texas Hold'em
Most table tops put out for D&D and by White Wolf
Ghostbusters table top rpg
Gran Turismo.
