This is amazing lol... just today me and my old friend were just talking about the old days of when we used to play pokemon before it became the galactic crap.. we were talking about this while playing WoW and it hit us, they need to make a mmorpg like WoW (NOT RUNESCAPE), i can actually picture this working out while i was playing WoW.

your in a big world with different continents and cities - you choose your continent and city that would be based on the actual pokemon world u see on tv (like pallet town).. a certain story line and professor when you start that goes with the place you chose. you get to choose out of the 3 starting pokemon (different pokemon on different continents or cities).
instead of your character gaining exp, your pokemon would.
you would be able to catch them and pvp with them.
travel many places and abtain many tasks.
get ur own pokedex to show where ya been and what ya seen.
pokemon on one continent will differ from pokemon on another like in the shows.
legendary tasks that lead to the legendary pokemon.
when fighting with a wild pokemon or a trained one.. you will be able to use different moves at the time you wish to and it wont be a lets take turns thing, it will give a more action or strategic feel to the game.
there will be fishing docks for catching sea pokemon.. you can dive in and swim - be careful though, there are pokemon in the ocean!
make caves. (for those pokemon like geodude)
make mountains.
make oceans. (garados lol)
make towns. (large and small)
make stadiums.
make gyms!
u need pokeballs!
potions.
theres so much but itll be so great!
currency.

i would get this game in a heatbeat!!!

I think even if you pick one pokemon and you are the pokemon, not the trainer and it isnt turnbased ie Charizard can fly around shooting balls of fire at other players, etc.
But your idea is also somethingI would play, I keep picturing WoW with pokemon, thats the easiest way to think of it.

I think its a great idea im also a wow player and like kyle simmons said i've also think aobut a pokemon game mmorpg just like wow , a huge world with different starting towns u could probably get pokemons like rapidash , ponyta ryhorn and use them like mounts just like in wow and probably capture an aerodactyl or a pigiott and use them like flying mounts , but the boring style of the fights u hit one then i hitnext had to be changed and make fights just like in smash bross and it wouln't matter if an electring pokemon has the advantage over a water-type pokemon it would also take skills to win. im sure alot of people would pay a monthly subscription to play a game like this, but it would deffinetly have to be a computer game not a console since consoles aren't that good for mmorpgs...'someone needs to come with an idea like this and buy the copyrights from nintendo =)

Diamond / Pearl incorporated online trading and battles. I don't see how it isn't already MMO, other than the fact that it's not a shared mapset, and you need friend codes to battle.

And the most pressing question of all:
Do you really want to get griefed by some 8 year-old kid's pack of auction house Jirachi, while you're trying to capture a wild Manaphy?
yeah, I've clearly been out of this game too long.
