it is very common that i come across threads that have a poll in them, and it seems that for every ten votes, there are only one or two comments.

so who out there comments with the vote?
who doesn't?
what determines whether you do or don't comment?

I am inquiring purely for my own self interest. it's something i pick up on. personally i only comment if i have something i feel is important to contribute.

Well, if the poll choice is the only answer I need, then adding a comment is redundant. That's what determines whether or not I comment after I vote on a poll.

I do whatever pleases me. Sometimes I'll vote and no comment, other times comment and not vote. Or to mix things up, vote for one thing then comment in a contradictory manner.

A combination of all the above, except for no. Whenever I see Poll: infront of a thread I'm automatically drawn towards it. Otherwise, I usually try to stay current to the thread if it's a long-ish one. If there's nothing to add I just stay silent

It depends on the subject. If I don't really care about the poll, eh, I may not vote, but I may respond to some comments. Then, sometimes there isn't the option that I would choose.

I almost always comment and not vote.

I feel that if I comment, it will mean far more than a number in a poll.

I vote and I see how many people have allready commented. If I start at reply #612 than the OP and its question have probably been long forgotten and the discussion has gone offtopic

I only comment if there's an actual discussion. It's as simple as that. Sometimes I won't even vote though. Really depends on the topic.

I was just about to say that.

Anyways: I always participate in the poll.
I comment sometimes, but most of the time, I just vote.

I'll vote, but if the thread doesn't seem to have much more discussion value than that, I won't comment.

In other words, if the maker of the thread seemed only interested in determining the Escapists' preferences or statistics in numbers (say Poll: What gender are you?), I'll vote, but not comment. I really don't see that much to talk about.

But if the poll is a jumping-off point for an interesting discussion, I'll most definitely comment.

I'll usually vote however I will only comment if I feel that I have something to contribut to the thread. If not I will just vote and move on.

I love this good old thread. It was fun when I did it, and fun when others do it too.

My answer is that I never vote and I dont like polls. Its for people too lazy to post a sentence and for OPs who are too lazy to read all the responses. I know it helps give us qualitative data, but I dont care. I also boycott all voting, be it political or otherwise.

Oh, and I didn't vote in your poll either.

Both:
vote, and only comment if i feel strongly about it
vote, and only comment to argue with other stupid answers other people write

I do a little bit of both
