I am asking the Question because a lot of people in other countries call anyone from the UK "English", I am Welsh and I hate being called English I also have a few Scottish friends who feel the same, all I want is that Wales and Scotland are given the respect and recognition they deserve and that people stop insulting us, our history and our culture by calling us English all the time, Wales and Scotland were actually countries ruled by our own Royal families hundreds of years before England ever was, the Tudor Royal Family that includes Henry VIII and Elizabeth 1st were decended from Welsh Royalty.

It is about time people seen that just because Wales and Scotland have had English rule forced upon them that UK ? England, but as long as the UK is ruled by the English the culture and history of the Welsh and Scottish will continue to be repressed.

Fe godwn ni eto - We will rise again.
So, ignorant people are ignorant? Yeah, not going to change that with a new passport.

Well I'm half English and half Scottish, so British is all I've got, because the preceding would look pretty stupid on my passport.

And judgung by the fact we have a flamewar going already, I'd say this definitely belongs in R&P.

OP: EVERYONE THINKS UK MEANS ENGLISH, YOU ARE FORGETTING ABOUT THE SCOTTISH AND THE WELSH

[sub]Then you forget about the Irish[/sub]

It makes you look a bit hypocritical when you complain about not getting recognition then you forget the other bloody country in the UK.
I have not forgotten the Irish, the Irish are well known all over the world because of things like St. Patricks day and their connection with America.

Ah, my favourite internet argument method: the ever reliable, "Quote some famous guy instead of actually providing a valid response." What about the vote in your native Wales to establish a Welsh Assembly? Before, there wasn't one. Now, there is. Something changed. Or that election in Greece that will change the future of the Eurozone? Or the election of the SNP in Scotland? Or the last UK general election, you now, when we got a government who run the country differently to how the previous government ran it?

Ah i do like to see a well thought out response to someone's point so if you should think of one please share it. Also does it really have to be explained why most of the British goverment is formed from English MP's when the English make up the bulk of the UK's population and hence have more constituencies requiring representation hence more MP's.

I think they are jealous of the quality of tea in England. They would rather be a country that has rejected tea than an area of the UK with bad quality tea.

Clearly.
Makes sense to me.

Out tea is very nice.

But some people can't tell the difference between Northern Ireland and the Republic.

OT: I'm English but I'd keep my passport as British. I treat everybody from Britain as a fellow countryman, why wouldn't I? We have the same army, pretty much governed by the same people, we have the same queen.

I don't see why Scotland and Wales want independence, what would you gain? It could very well lead to the collapse of the countries. I don't believe that Scotland and Wales have the financial clout to go it alone and I don't think England would be financially stable if Wales and Scotland weren't involved. If it's a national pride thing that's just silly. I recall seeing on a Sky Sports news report a Scottish guy saying that he wanted England to fail at the Euros because England massacred the Scottish in medieval times. I don't see how people can hold a grudge for something that happened hundreds of years ago.

EDIT: I currently live in Scotland and I haven't met many people that have said they want independence

The Prime Minister maybe scottish but you look at the front bench and they are ALL English, every law passed in the "UK", is always passed for the benefit of the English and only the English, the so called "Welsh Assembly" is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the English Goverment.

People never forget. Nothing gets forgiven.

Makes you wonder where we would be today if people just got the fuck over things that happened in the past and got on with their lives.

It's worse than that, they are passed for the benefit of the people in power, which means the majority of the English are just as fucked as everybody else.

Seriously, if you think they have loyalty to anyone but the people that pay for them to get elected you are off your nut.

Northern Ireland would be a shitload different, we know that better than many. Some people here cannot let go of the past, I'll be glad when their generation is gone as it's been holding us back for a while. The troubles were a few decades ago yet people still harp on about them. Maybe I cannot relate as I was born after them.

That being said their children will probably carry on the "struggle". God, I can't wait until I'm gone. No doubt I'll still be stuck here in a decade.
Yeah it sucks.

Both sides did some pretty awful things, but that's in the past now.

Learn from it, grow from it, get over it.

Nothing is gained from obsessing over 'what could have been'.

I wonder how the English would feel if the UK still looked like this and they were ruled by the Welsh instead of being the ones in power and control.

The English have also screwed over the other nations, they closed every Coal Mine in Wales and ruined thousands of Welsh Families before they even considered closing ONE English Mine.

In sports I will NEVER support England, in the Olympics I will support Welsh, Scottish and Irish athletes but I will not support one English Athlete.

Excuse me?

The English?

No, I think you'll find that was a few of the English.

I certainly had no hand closing down any mines.

Stop fucking generalising.
