It's still kicking and functional. Now if only downloading on it would actually work.

Nope, I didn't have enough cash for one until about mid last year. Although I would suspect using homebrew software with a jailbreak would enable PS2 emulation, it really doesn't matter. I've got two PS2 slims, one an unopened backup, and when I get a new computer it will be able to run that fancy PS2 emulator at 60 fps for most games. A couple of terabyte drives, and you have a complete PS2 library, all digital.

Although I prefer my collection physicAL. (cookie for the reference) My only gripe is that the games look kinda crap on an HD TV. And somehow Europe got the Ratchet and Clank collection first.

All I've ever had were the pre-2009 models. Currently on my third one - an exceptionally rare 80GB backwards-compatible PS3 - and it works like a charm, though admittedly the fan has gotten quite noisy. BC was the major selling point to me for the PS3, so I refuse to get one that doesn't have it. No more wired controllers or expensive-as-shit memory cards for the win!

Yup, a good ol' fat backwards-compatible 60 gig with the silver border finish and the various SD card slots. Though I upgraded the measly 60 gig HDD with half a tera pretty quickly, much like the OP did.

Still works like a charm, which I can't say about everything. *stares accusingly at his X360*

I was a late adopter, so I just went with the 160gb slim, so I never had a backwards compatible ps3. I want one though.

60GB with hardware retro support. It rocks, black monolith and all that.

What I miss is the Linux bit that got stopped abruptly, and what I also miss is the ability to load all my PSX games onto the internal harddrive, which was a brief but very, very satisfying experience.

Now, ever since going back to legit and official firmware, the void could only be filled with emulators on PC, which allow for overcoming artificial (regional) locks, and even play the games at higher resolutions and emulate the visual peculiarities of bygone CRT tech, which is splendid fun - especially since only very few retro game rereleases allow for such - essential - trickery.

I've stopped re-buying my old games on PSN ever since I repeatedly got handed censored/crippled/localized versions of games without warning, and I don't like the concept of randomly throwing money at things I already own.

Yup. Bought mine (40gb) in June 2008 and it still works like a charm. Never had a single complaint about it. Not backwards compatible, but as I haven't had problems with my PS2, I don't need it to be. I've thought about expanding the HD, but in the end I've never needed to. I just delete stuff I don't play anymore. Simple.

While I do have a 80gb fatty, it was bought in early 2009 so the slim model wasn't out yet. Heck, it wasn't even announced yet.

Yeah, it's still chugging along. It died a couple of times, but some better thermal paste and a replacement fan seems to have set it right.

I've got an 80GB Fatty, one of the last ones sold even. I got it just a month before Sony announced that they were discontinuing those backwards compatible versions. Plus, the 80GB was always hard to come by!

I had mine up until a month or so ago. Sold it to a friend for cheap and got a Slim since it fit better under my TV. Had the old one since 2008 or so, never had a single problem and it still works perfectly.

Yup. I bought it when it came packaged with Guns of the Patriots in 2008. Still works fine.

I don't even have my original post-2009 PS3, (thanks a bunch, New Vegas) but I think the slimline looks prettier, anyway.

Nope. Mine's a slim, bought October or November 2009. Still works, still happy with it, and, since I have a PS2, I'm not bitching about backwards compatibility.

Until a couple of weeks ago, I still had my 40Gb that i got in '08.
Unfortunately, for whatever reason, it was overheating in under ten minutes, so I had to trade it in for a slim 160Gb version.

Unfortunately not. Had an 80gig for three good years, but I'm mainly an RPG player and those things eat up memory like nothing else. Fortunately, I was working at Game and they dropped the price of the 320 Killzone 3 slims down to 90 quid, and we still had some kicking about. And thats how much trade in they were offering for the 80gigs.

Yup, I got upgraded to the 320gig slim, plus KZ3, for free.

Suck on that!
