I did so every Friday after work with the entire group at an internship. It was a petting zoo, which mostly works with volunteers. It wasn't exactly the most formal of groups to work with, which I really liked. Though the only difference being that I drank wine. I can't stand the taste of 90% of all beers. ^^;;

Well, I work at a hotel/restaurant/bar. So yeah, I've been known to get a few drinks with the rest of the kitchen staff after, the head chef included.

I go drinking with my boss all the time. I've been his wingman on dates, Hell we go grocery shopping together. Though I've got an odd relationship everyone thinks we're a couple when they see us together.

I've done it and it was alright but it was when I literally worked AT a bar... so I guess it qualifies by all the criteria there.

However, outside of that job no and I don't think I would as I believe such fraternization between direct superiors is not suitable for a proper workplace environment.

I would, of course, be fine with doing so with say a lateral equivalent to my boss in another department.
I think it depends what your work environment is like.
I think this is the most important part. My work environment is very formal and we have established hierarchies in place. I also respect my boss too much in his role. Most certainly we could form a friendship outside of work but it would be harmful to our work environment in the case of me expecting potential favors from him and him expecting potential favors from me when our roles depend too much on each other behaving professionally for the good of the company.

Maybe this is a reflection of the kind of jobs I've worked (none of them office jobs or jobs where you're particularly anxious about sucking up to your superiors) but yeah, I've gone drinking with senior staff members and even the proverbial "boss" many times. Never just one-on-one or in a small group, generally works socials, stuff like that. It's never been a problem, in fact it's quite nice to see a different side of your managers and get to know them as people.

The one boss I ever had was...someone so opposite to me in personality it's not even funny, and that caused a ton of friction, ending with me quitting. Nobody at worked liked her, and it's not hard to see why. I'd rather **** with a cactus up my ***** than drink with her.

Definitely it was great fun. In 2011 as a reward for the year's work my boss shouted me and the two other part-timers to dinner at a fancy buffet restaurant at the casino. After dinner we hit the casino floor where I promptly lost $100 of my own money and another $100 of my friends xD

Beer was actually one of the usual conversation topics I had with that boss. Kind of wish I still worked there, he was great.

I've had drinks(and food) with my bosses. It's usually a pretty good time, though I work in a pretty small office so we tend to be fairly friendly towards each other. There are some staff that I wouldn't hang out with outside of work though.
