I'll tell you this: Human Centipede is very tame. Not even when compared to films like A Serbian Film. It's just tame.

However, A Serbian Film is utterly pointless and disgusting.

Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom is worse than A Serbian Film in terms of gore and sheer brutality; it's also far better in story and suspense, in my opinion. I liked them both, but I think Salò has "class", and I know that sounds extremely weird when talking about these fucked up movies, but that is the impression I got.

Really.. it's the kind of film I've stopped caring about.

Pornographic styles of film-making are so ingrained into contemporary 'horror' cinema that we don't even notice them most of the time.

I've seen Salo. I enjoyed it at the time, and yeah this film would have to be pretty fucking disgusting to top that. The point is that that kind of cinema only exists to trigger an abjection response, which is a very crude form of stimulating pleasure. That's all it is, it's just pandering to the viewer's pleasure principle as surely as watching a hardcore porn film. 'Oh look, you saw something nasty! But now it's over and it's not real.. here, feel some relief and pleasure.' It's the same principle as a carnival spookhouse.

Really.. That scene in Funny Games where there's the ridiculously long shot of the couple sitting in silence next to the body of their son (in fact, most of Funny Games as a film). That to me is how you do sadism artistically. Letting the audience feel pleasure over the suffering of fictional characters isn't sadism, it's just schadenfreude.

I'm being too harsh. Heck, I love 'nasty' films, they're the best kind of low art. But the best such films use the pleasure response to underscore something, to destabilize the viewer in a more long term way or to trigger some kind of self-reflection. This just sounds like the kind of movie you could go see and come out without a single new idea or original thought beyond 'ewww.. did you see the bit when ...'.

I don't like seeing sex in films, it makes me uncomfortable, especially when it's child rape...

I watched The Human Centipede:First Sequence and while searching articles online I found out about A Serbian Film. I probably couldn't hold myself to see A Serbian Film.

Bit of an overreaction, ne?

What it contains is little worse than something like the Old Testament, yet we don't - and shouldn't - shun those whose fandom of that text extend to worship. This despite it purportedly being a historical account of real and immense crimes against humanity committed by a perpetrator who is inherently in the right, whereas "A Serbian Film" lay claim to nothing more than merely depicting fictional crimes, with no indication that they're ethically justified. Which is worse?

And much like GTA won't make its players run over random passerbys to toss a grenade out the side window at them, I doubt this one will ever make any of its viewers act its scenes out in real life; and if contrary to expectation it somehow does, then that would undoubtedly be due to some preexisting mental or ethical deficit in that individual.

Hehe I can give you a visual representation of what that movie is....

If you'll look at the Diagram below you'll see how the "Human Centipede" also represents the process of getting the movie out in theatres.

If you'll notice the person in front, you'll see that he is the originator of this god-awful movie and basically craps the idea out into the directors and producers (Middle Person). Where upon they ingest and re-digest the already processed fecal matter (Movie Idea) and crap it into the mouths of the audience, I.E. people like you and me. (Last person on the left).

So you see? What you're watching is basically an idea crapped out by the creator then eaten and crapped out once again by the director where he shovel feeds us this garbage in theatres....

I challenge you to find a passage in the Old Testament describing brutal rape, incest, murder, paedophilia and necrophilia all in the same context, except as part of a "DON'T FUCKING DO THIS" passage in one of the early law books.

The Bible is a collection of books describing purportedly real events (both good and bad) of the history of an entire civilisation.

A Serbian Film is a fictional story of a man involved in crimes against humanity for the purpose of... shocking an audience? Plenty of movies have done it. Presenting the message that corpse rape is bad? I fear for the safety of every living being on the planet if you needed a movie to learn that message. Presenting a caricature of what Western audiences believe about other countries? Hostel already did that, and it didn't involve the rape and murder of a child.

Meh, had a chance to see it at a film fest last summer. Everyone I knew who saw it prior to that told me it was pretty weak. Now, Human Centipede. Now THERE'S a movie.

Just to point out about all you people talking about the Human Centipede, I hope you all watch the porno version (I think its the Human Sexipede or something predictable) for irony's sake.

And isn't the Serbian Film meant to be some sort of statement about how bad the Serbs treat people?

Dressed up as a weird gorey fuck-fest.
Which kind of defeats the point of making a political statement if you're going to be immature about it.

I actually thought of watching it at some time, just to see what the fuss is about.

And Salo, 120 Days of Sodom, was it? And Cannibal Holocaust.

But I didn't get around to it/them. And then I formatted my computer. Maybe I should get around to it/them.

And yes, I'm very desensitized. I could easily watch that stuff.

Me personally? It was boring as fuck.
'Fuck' being the operative word.

Well, it can't be any worse than Saló, or 120 days of sodom. And if you don't know what that is, have fun finding out!

I will not be watching it. I would rather be caught with hardcore pornography than a film like this.
And anybody who thinks that watching it makes you interesting and edgy? It doesn't. It makes a pathetic pervert with the mentality of a bullied fourteen year old.
