Usually, a weepy idiot who can't go five minutes without "falling in love" with the nearest attractive member of their preferred sex.
But then, I am kind of a grumpy prickhole, so there you go.
If I was particularly pissed off, this is what I would probably say.

Ok, this may not be the simplest of questions, and it might well have already been done,
but as it is my first thread, it is a chance to learn, right?
Welcome to the Escapist, may you enjoy your stay.

I would consider a romantic person to be one who has a somewhat old fashioned and optimistic view of being in love.

Someone who will do selfless things just to make thier loved one smile.

I love romantic people.

Well if someone is a romantic they are into big gestures to show affection. If they are a hopeless romantic they do the same thing, but thing they are way more effective then they actually are.

"They have a fantasy-like world view", because that's what the word means, in general usage, in the given context- unless you are talking about the Romanticists and get bored of saying Romanticists over and over in an essay on Romanticists.

I normally try to be the kind, caring, gentlemanly sort of person. Unfortunately for me, being an asshole of a boyfriend seems to be in fashion right now. Needless to say, I'm single.

Yeah, I don't understand this at all.

I would consider myself a romantic, but not in the conventional sense.
I tend to do anything and everything on a whim, so it can end awkwardly sometimes.

Back on topic here...
I would say someones a romantic when they try to do special things with the one they love, not all the time, and never being expected.

Like: "Wanna go to lunch?" "Sure!" 20 mins later "We're having lunch by the sea?" "SURPRISE! I booked us a cruise!"
Like that... but not necessarily that extreme.

They're rather delusional idealists generally looking up to periods of time that didn't actually existed outside of works of fiction.

So, yea, a fantasy-like view. That's the proper definition, y'know.

Different people consider different things romantic so the meaning of it can change from person to person.

My girlfriend says that I'm both very sweet and very romantic, I don't see it myself but if the way I act makes her feel that way then I don't see anything wrong with that.

The term itself leans heavily to the "They are an emotional, and imaginative person" side. However, modern use typically just implies that they have an amorous personality, since that is a more readily understood use of the term, as the implications are a little more specific.

ie

Saying someone is romantic (meaning emotional and imaginative) can imply that someone is a fanciful thinker, an eternal optimist, impractical...

Saying someone is romantic (meaning amorous or suave) just means that they can easily gain endearment from and instill pleasant emotions in the opposite sex.

Which way is simpler? That's how I look at it anyway.

Just a pleasant, happy, loving and respectful person. Someone who knows how to treat another they love.

They get the oppisite sex by being a decent person that actually cares for them.

They are also not a bellend to others though some people have misunderstood the work as friend #1 said to me Person A is romantic, yet he is as described above.
