I fell for it coz I thought it was a primary objective. Didn't have a problem in the boss fight though. Even with a fucked up HUD in 'Give Me Deus Ex' mode, all I did was hide and blindfire his ass with a laser rifle.

I was suspicious but did it for the exp (it was a quest after all). Made it difficult later but not impossible,

I was suspicious because I remembered the Killswitch from Deus Ex 1 but I wanted to see what would happen so I went ahead and fell for it. Once I got used to it the boss fight was actually pretty easy. Just run around and fill him full of lead whenever he appears.

Yeah I fell for it big time, but my first play through I was determined to do everything, even side quests, and playing a stealth character I didnt want my augments randomly shorting out on me, cloak especialy, while sneaking around, I didnt think about the consiquences till that cutscene where I said to myself "oh sh*t"

I tell ya I must be a glutton for punishment, because my first playthrough, going for stealth and pacificsm on "give me deus ex" difficulty, I was pulling my hair out at the boss fights.

Ended up beating that one by standing close to one of the walls he jumps over on the east or west side of the room, wait for him to start to hop over (since his cloak temporarily disables as he does and he is vulnerable and cant shoot back till that animation completes) looking through the small slits in the walls to know when he is approaching, shoot a few bullets into him as he is jumping over (the shotgun I found in that room was particularily useful since all I had on me at the time was a combat rifle, stungun and tranq rifle) run to the other end of the room (opening drawers on the way if I could spare the time for ammo and painkillers), save game, repeat... for a good half an hour! was so relieved when he finally died.

And was super proud of myself when I got my pacifist and legendary achievements yesterday afternoon

Yeah I did take it, I knew it would backfire on me, I was just curious if the devs had the balls to make the game unwinnable.

What a shame.

Unfortunately, I did. While I am for the most part genre savvy, I've never really done much to circumvent those traps when I am actually playing a game. This is due to the vast amounts of railroading I have to go through with most other games and when I can tell someone's a bad guy from yonks away, the game generally doesn't let me do anything about it. Given how I was pushed out of Zhao's office in a cutscene when I clearly knew better, I settled into that frame of mind again.

This reminds me of the first Deus Ex. I KNEW that mechanic was dodgy and my first instinct was to tell Jock about it. Sadly, the game didn't feature an "Urgently tell Jock that something is very very wrong" option so I had to go through with it. It didn't occur to me to knock him out (since I wasn't in the battlefield and I'm a pacifist) or to tell Morgan Everett.

I think that this is the first game I've played in yonks where I can go 'screw that noise' in response to my genre danger radar.

Not only did I get it, I STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A MISSION TO GET IT.

I felt like an idiot when that boss came around.
