So, I'm just curious. What is everyone's stance on collecting action figures, figurines, statues, etc. from anime or video games?

A random thought, I know. But a lot of people seem to think very different things about action figures so I thought I'd ask.

Personally, I have a bit of an addiction to them. But I don't keep them in the boxes. I keep the box, but I take them out. My computer desk is full of figurines from video games and a few from anime.

So, what're your thoughts on them?

EDIT: Action figures, detailed figures, statues, etc. I'm grouping them in the same category here but if you like one and dislike another, then mention that or something.

It depends on the individual figurine (or whatever). If it's a cool one I'd be willing to get it but I wouldn't collect for the sake of collecting.

I can't get enough of them. If I see one that I find cute or of good quality, I'll just up an buy it. This had led to me having to get a new cabinet just so I have room to fit them all (and there are many). I'm probably also going to get a new display case when I can get my hands on some 1:1 Rozen Maiden Dolls.

I'm also very much into models, especially if they're Mobile Suits from the Universal Century.

I usually just buy ones of characters I know and like, but I've met people that buy them just...because. I've got a friend that will buy them even if he's never played the game/seen the anime/whatever else. That doesn't make much sense to me, but to each his own. :p

Yeah, I should probably set up a shelf for mine. They drive my dad nuts. Whenever he needs to fix my computer or something (he's better at it than I am and I don't want to mess it up xD), he always knocks at least two of them over. He's broken a couple too, so I really SHOULD get a shelf. -laugh-

Well, I don't have much of a thing for those action figures with I-don't-know-how-many joints for maximum posability.
However, when it comes to nicely detailed sculptures, like much of the stuff from McFarlane productions (I'm looking at one very badass Spawn figure right now), I'm all for it. Aside from that, I like putting my few painted W40k figurines on display for me, because I still can't believe I actually managed to paint those things.
Oh, and I'm a sucker for Transformers (again, if the design and the level of detail are good).

I don't see an option for "I don't collect them, but I don't mind the idea of it." Though admittedly, it's a bit odd to see someone with a massive collection. Just having a few or several figures on the desk seems just fine. Hell, if that damned claw-machine wasn't messed up, I'd have a figure of Super Vegito on my desk right now. But no. The fucking claw barely gripped the boxes. Damn those prize-grabbing machines. They never work!

Detailed figurines, yes. Action figures, not really. I prefer hand-sculpted beauty over cheap plastic, thank you.

Granted, I only have TYPE-MOON related stuff (Tsukihime/Melty Blood and Fate Stay Night), with some Haruhi stuff to accentuate.

Amen. Keeping them in the box is disrespectful, especially since I have a connection to each of them.

Especially <url=http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/271/1001862.jpg>Hisui and Kohaku. They were the first ones I won out of a UFO Catcher in Japan...

For some reason, I can never find any where I live. Nothing from any series that's interesting, at least. Finding <url=http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/2277/1001857f.jpg>Saber at Comic Con was a huge surprise.

I hate the claw-type machines, personally (though strangely, I actually got one to work on the first pass...once). When I was in Japan, <url=http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/5949/1000717z.jpg>this machine was my best friend...

If I ever see one that I really like, [deity] help my bank account.
I haven't seen any yet, (a few NGE ones I've seen, but don't really want them) but I'm watching more animes, so this won't last.

But yea dont have much of a collection now but its mostly because I know what i want and its just not out there in retail close to me yet.

You need to work on the composition of your photos and learn to frame a shot before taking it. Otherwise we'll learn what kind of cologne (or whatever that bottle was) you use. You also need to focus the shot on a particular object.

And in this...
<url=http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/4960/1001854j.jpg>I quite
case you need to take a look at the colors present in the shot before you take it. You also need take into consideration the amount of reflective colors and surfaces. If you have too much white in a shot, or a reflective surface, then it will only create an area of mirrored light from the flash. I didn't see that figure in front of the fan without having to zoom in because it was enveloped in a area that was reflecting the flash.

This shot however was very well done. There wasn't a lot of light being reflected and the shot was centered on an object.

Ah. I'll keep that all in mind, but I was just so overjoyed at having found the camera (and the opportunity for condoned narcissism) that I wasn't really paying attention to composition.

Much as its embarrassing to admit, that's all pretty much what my room looks like. I don't even know what that Glacier Bay stuff is. Completely forgot it existed until you pointed it out, actually; I was too busy focusing on Len and Sion...

Let's see, on my desk atm I've got 9 transformers, a couple of RE2 and RE5 figures, a few comic based ones and a couple of clone/stormtroopers. Yeah, I love action figures.
