If you haven't heard, the tagline for the Battlefield 3 commercial is "above and beyond the call" which I can't help to think this is E.A's way of attacking Call of Duty(especailly after that whole incident at E3, where E.A said that Battlefield 3 gonna take down Call of Duty and Activision). It seems that E.A is starting to act like Battlefield fanboy/Call of Duty Haters, and this looks like this generations "Nintendo vs SEGA war." What do you guys think?

"EA starting to act like Battlefield fanboys/Call of Duty Haters" my batoochie. I already ranted about the whole scenario of people getting their nickers in a twist over some healthy mudslinging in this thread [www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.315005], so I won't bother to go on.

Wouldn't that require the companies to have some kind of identity that wasn't 'homogeneous corporation of faceless evil dicks'?

Seriously, nobody likes publishers, especially those two. Unless they're also developers. Then maybe. EA & Activision have no fanboys.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Not really, I Think most gamers would like to see both fail and the devs manage to escape.

I just think that EA really has no clue how to act or advertise their shit, and therefore say things that they think will get them more fans but really just alienate people.

The whole Nintendo vs. Sega thing was a battle over consoles, with Mario vs. Sonic driving console sales as opposed to this, which is just EA trying to drum up controversy in order to advertise their product through word of mouth.

so, no.

I think it's more like the rivalry between Capcom and SNK than the rivalry between Nintendo and Sega, if for no other reason than neither company makes consoles. (Okay, technically SNK made a home console, but it wasn't a major part of the market, and it was nothing but an arcade machine slightly re-worked to be sold as a home system.)

No... If anything its this gen's Mario vs Sonic.
I'd say even that's a bit of a stretch. Their two main competing franchises aren't even significantly different from each other to warrant that. At least the style of platforming was quite different between Mario and Sonic.

This would require both companies to start developing or publishing good games.
Dead Space 2. Check and mate, mate.

Don't ever accuse EA of not managing to put out some really great games.
Dead Space 2 might be alright but it's not "really great", and in truth, it utterly fails as a piece of survival horror.

I'm not too familiar with Bioware's stuff, but fuck, according to the really dedicated fandom, EA has even managed to ruin their games. I have noticed that they dipped into the cheesecake for character designs a bit more, and, let's face it, Dragon Age 2 was definitely simplified the fuck out of.

To summarize my point, I can't even remember the last time I played a truly great EA published (much less developed) game.
