Escapist doesn't exactly log you out for you. So anyone can come by and just start using it.
That is correct. However, does it exactly happen more often than the original user using their account. The answer is "No". Some usability experts even suggest the password shouldn't be obscured when being input (with the option of hiding it, if the user feels like it) because it hinders genuine users more than it actually helps security. The same thing is happening here - sure somebody could come and use your account but the vast majority of cases, it's you who do it. And besides, even if somebody "hijacked" your account, the age verification isn't exactly going to stop them - using a different age that what you have on your account is no issue at all.

They should just get rid of age verification completely. I really don't think someone who isn't 18 will be stopped by age verification when you can just lie.

Edit: The funny thing is the only time I ever got stopped by an age verification thing I entered my birth year like 300 years in the past. Other than that I've been 18 for the last 100-50 years.

It'd be quite funny if the age verifications were actually recorded and used to look at the demographics of trailers etc... Sooo many 100 year old gamers out there apparantly.

But anyway, i dont understand why you cant just put in your birthday when signing up.. thats what youtube does

BEGONE FOUL DEMON!!!

Well I guess it might have something to do with laws of some sort since the Escapist isn't the only one doing this??
