ak positives=stopping power, big ass bullets, reliability, negatives=shit accuracy, bad iron sights, awful recoil. m16 positives=low recoil, hydrostatic shock, fast round, long range, great sights, negatives= breaks down and jams often, flimsy polymer construction, and if you are referring to the m16a4, no full auto function. id still go for m16

AK,
everything from the bullets to the butt-stock are heavy, and will cause loads of damage

Lets say you start a new game and you don`t know anything about it..not even the title..and it asks you which weapon would you prefer...ak47 or m16?

please state why..(keep in mind that you might be facing anything from terrorists to zombies to interdimensional beings to...the latest children in the school trend:p)

choose wisely..
M16, M16A2, M16A4 or M4? Biiiig difference.

Well, the AK-47 has been known to be a much more reliable gun than the M16. It is much easier to use, and a hell of a lot more durable. It can be shot in virtually any condition, as opposed to having to clean your M16 ever two firefights, and it is much simpler to use and disassemble than the M16. Why do you think you always see kids in the Middle East carrying AK's? Oh, and that wasn't a racist joke, I'm being serious, this gun is so easy it is idiot proof/kid proof. Finally point, wood hand holder so you don't burn yourself while firing it.

Good luck ever finding a working one that hasn't been updated to an A2 or A4 due to parts failure... There might be one in an Air Force museum somewhere...

AK47 I heard a kid can maintain it with just a shoe string
I read in the zombie survival guide the M16 is a terrible weapon, cant be used as a emergency club (the stock will shatter), hard to maintain and has a tendency to jam
but if its a shooter not a RP
I would still go for the AK47 it looks cool
The zombie survival guide was written by an idiot.

ak47 and here's why. it's one of the most reliable and powerful assault rifles ever made. It's been made and remade and copied (Chinese Type 56-I) while the M16 is terrible. Every time the target's range changes you have to readjust the sights (with a screwdriver or bobby pin I might add), it's flimsy and it jams frequently. It is one of the biggest failures in weapon's history.

The Kalashnikov.

It is so ridiculously reliable it could survive a nuke ... well, maybe repairs with a paperclip, duct tape, and a toothbrush may be required ...

Seriously though .. those rifles last freakin' forever.

...actually, Max Brooks is just an entertainment history buff, rather than a technical/world history buff.

But yeah, the M16's stock is much tougher than one might initially think... not prone to shattering so much as shattering people's bones [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fGW-8KAbc4] (and yes, with a rifle butt strike, you tend to contact with the steel sling loop, not the plastic... which is still more resilient than human bone)...
and a kid with a shoestring can only reattach hand guards on an AK, any necessary mechanical part failure is definitely beyond the ability of a shoestring to fix.

AK47 seems to be the most solid in FPS/3rd person shooters. I know what I'm getting into when I pick up the AK47. Similar to real-life, actually.
