Mostly social reasons, however it also helps to drink away any problems I may have at the time for a short while. Come results day, I'm fairly sure that I will be taking a trip down to the pub. I mean, who the fuck leaves their calculator in radians mode?

I just drink socially, I don't really care for drinking and don't go looking to get drunk like a lot of people I know.

You do not have enough options in your poll.

I drink to wind down/relax. I can't sleep at night with alot on my mind, too much tension from daily stress. A couple of drinks before bedtime relax me enough to be able to chill and sleep. Also a couple of drinks before bedtime help my sore muslces after a high impact workout not to be so stiff the next day.

Several of the options are applicable. However most of the time I drink because that's how we socialise. Go to pub, have a few beers, chat to old friends, make new ones. Tried and tested formula.

There are also occasions like beer tastings, when I do it for the taste. Or sometimes "I just got dumped/my dog died/I failed that exam/Insert excuse here, let's get drunk"

I tend to drink for very few reasons. I drink to ease any tensions, this normally when I bring someone home for the first time and we're both nervous. However my number one go to reason is: When we go out its either to a pub or a club. So we drink to be social!

I drink because alcohol is delicious! That said, I only drink when my friends are, and that's not very often - maybe every few weeks. I try not to get really drunk anymore because I make an asshole of myself. -Cringe-

I haven't had a drink in over 3 years. I am not opposed to drinking, I am opposed to the amount the western world drinks.

It seems alcohol is like air, have it with everything. Long day? Booze, your having a meal? Booze, your celebrating or mourning? Booze, your bored? Booze, you want something to drink While watching TV/film? Booze. It's Friday/Saturday and your going out? Booze.

In all the above examples you never have the "RDA" of alcohol, do you? You always have 5 or 6 pints which is technically binge drinking, even though you feel no effect. Which is a shocking fact in it'self.

I will drink to celebrate or whatever but doing it just 'cos it's there is stupid, to me anyway. Like why do you have to go to a pub and buy booze to have a good conversation? Can't you go "Friends" style and go to a coffee shop, spend half as much and still have a good chat?

To those saying "I like it for the taste", it reminds me of a joke. "I like the taste of tea, that doesn't mean I drink 10 pints a night!", which if you apply it to tea makes it seem insane. If somebody said to that to you, you would burst out laughing but if somebody says that about booze it sounds like there bragging, to which you come back with your "HA! I drank 10 pints of ... then I had 5 shots of ... follwed by 3 crazy cocktails I would never order sobre".

Little more on topic. guinness is the best, just has to be from Ireland, it's not the same other wise.

I used to drink a lot when i was in my late teens (legal at 18 in the Uk and all that) but i gave up drinking at 21, I got bored of the feeling of being drunk and honestly, I didn't like the drunk I became, very chatty and flirty.

So I stopped.

I don't drink, for a number of reasons:
1. I'm only 16, and I personally want to wait until I can legally drink.
2. I'm diabetic. Alcohol is made up of (primarily) complex carbohydrates, which, when broken down, becomes sugar, which does nothing good for me.
3. I've been warned by my brother (he's 20) that drinking usually won't lead anywhere good. He's had stories ranging from friends vomiting in casino bins to falling asleep on the driveway.
I might start when I'm older, but nothing too 'powerful' (vodka, absinthe).

Makes fun more fun.

I try not to drink so much that I'm completely fucked. Still like to be right in the zone though.

I'll sometimes have a drink with dinner, and I often drink with friends. I drink because I enjoy it. I'm 23, so there's no stupid "rebellious" lure to it, which I personally never understood or experienced. It's not a big deal to me one way or the other. It's just something enjoyable to indulge in when I feel like it.

Jack and Coke, though? So delicious. Also, mojitos are pretty much the best thing ever.

Haha, glad you like it.

Speaking of alcohol, I definitely didn't take that whole moderation thing into consideration last night, really paying for that now,

I drink beer, and for the flavour.

I actually don't enjoy wine, mostly. Sometimes, with food, it can be delicious, but beer/lager/ale/stouts are still, and will be my favourite. Followed by whisky.

I drink whiskey, vodka, and rum, because they are delicious and because being tipsy is fun.
Usually with friends, though. Drinking alone isn't worth the effort.

Drinking helps me loosen up and generally powers all of my ridiculous activities and life-choices. I've made a lot of great connections with powerful or interesting people through the medium of alcohol. Its liquid bravery/inspiration.
