Only reason the humans were "yummy snacks" int he first movie was cause they were non military and had no weapons on board. If one of them had a shotgun u can bet it would have gone down differently.

I'll go with Aliens, I loved Alien, I think its a classic but Aliens was so much better for me. A film I grew up on as a kid. They're so different movies, they both work well on there own merits and I'd consider them equals however, I didn't watch Alien till I was about 9 while I was about 3+ when I watched Aliens and I've always love it so nostalgia keeps it there at the top spot.

Aliens.

I'm a fan of Michael Biehn and Lance Henriksen.

Also that pulse rifle sound is music to my ears.

Aliens wins. That reveal, that shot with the queen on her throne, that is one of the best moments in all of movie history. Still, regardless of which you vote for, LONG LIVE THE HIVE!!

The fourth alien movie to be honest but I never really saw 'Alien' all the way through so...

I liked both - I love how different they are, they both have completely different styles, different strengths. Both are great, though I prefer to watch Aliens for the action-y goodness :D

Alien.

Aliens is badass but it also seemed to spin the rest of the Alien franchise into the sci-fi/action genre whereas the original was sci-fi/horror which I still think really works for it. The sole alien is scary, moreso when there's one killing off the very confined crew one-by-one.

Sure, an entire planet full of aliens is pretty fucked up, too, but when you've got a solid pack of Marines armed to the teeth it's less scary the more the acid-dripping carcasses pile up.

So, yeah, I like the horror-aspect and thus the original film has stayed my favorite (and, seriously, I *hated* the "Newt" character in "Aliens".)

Wait, Alien was a horror film? I don't remember being scared at all... (I'll be re-watching it soon though).

But, unfortunately, I haven't seen Aliens yet, so, by default, Alien wins my vote.

Marter buddy... I'm disappointed. Both those movies still freak me out and I love them. See these movies!

[sub]The later ones get a little sillier but that seems to be par for the course in the world of sequels.[/sub]

So we're not going to mention Resurrection?
That movie is like the Super Mario Bros movie...

One for the film fans: which do you prefer Ridley Scott's intense horror or James Cameron's action epic? Remember this is personal preference not which one is superior as they are vastly different films trying to achieve different goals. Personally while I love Alien, nothing can beat Aliens, I have literally never been on the edge of my seat as much as I was at the end of that movie.

Also I thought Alien 3 was alright I don't get why everyone hates it so much.
they are both great

and I think we can all agree that the rest was just a bad dream ripley had in hypersleep

I thought Alien was a great sci-fi horror film, very atmospheric. Aliens wasn't a particularly scary film, but it was a great action movie with sci-fi trappings. One of the very few action movies I actually like. It's so hard to choose, I love them both for different reasons.
EDIT: I've gotta admit, watching Aliens while tripping was... an experience. I haven't plucked up the courage to do the same with Alien though.

aliens. you have to admit their were alot more humans to kill and a hundred aliens are scarier than one.

funny story about aliens is that she agreed to let me watch it if i promised to be able to go to sleep...half way through the movie my mom was clinging to my arm

The technical effects seemed rather crude (granted, this movie is a tad older) but still. Also, the scene with the dog getting the alien and then dying was sad... Why the hell does the cat from the first movie get to live but killing the dog is okay? Fuck that! (sorry, love dogs). nothing against Alien 3, but because of that, it just wasn't my cup of kool-aid.

OT: Gotta go with Aliens. While I like Alien a lot, I think I just have more fun watching the action epic that is Aliens.

No option for useless people who sit on the fence. It depends entirely on my mood. I love them both.

Since you mentioned Alien 3, it is the most under-rated movie of all time. The only crappy thing about it was editing, some fool removed Paul Mcgann's final scenes. They are back in the directors cut, but that version also has the alien birthing from an ox, which spoils the funeral scene. That in itself is one of the most epic scenes ever. The death of the dog matches what is said, I love it.

It was too dark for some at the time it seems and it was quite un-American, which might explain why it did well in Europe but not in the States. One final comment, it is also an example of why people are stupid, they wanted another all out action epic like Aliens. Instead we got a very unexpected movie that actually brought a franchise full circle and finished it. Then we got a whole load of spin off stuff......

Aliens. For creating United States Colonial Marines that were later integral part of Alien vs Predator game series. Sad that everyone forgot about them in the movies.
