It?s 7:35AM, and I haven?t been to bed yet. Nor do I intend to go to bed. Well, at least not until sometime this evening. I am in the process of pulling what some might call an ?All-Nighter,? which, for those who don?t know, basically means staying up for the entire night, usually in order to accomplish something.

The thing is, I?m not really accomplishing anything by staying up all night. Most people pull an all nighter because they need to study or cram, they have an assignment due, they?re wired beyond belief, etc. As for me, my sleep patterns messed up. I slept for 13 hours yesterday, woke up at three in the afternoon, and honestly haven?t felt at all tired so far. I figure that if I?m ever going to get back into a normal sleep habit, I ought to try and correct this by exhausting myself, and then take an early night and hit the sheets in about fifteen hours (10PM).

But enough about me. Have you ever pulled an all nighter, and if so what was the reason behind it?

[sub]In case anyone's wondering, I searched forum titles in off-topic using the words ?all nighter? and ?night? and found nothing.[/sub]

I've had multiple reasons for pulling all nighters. I couldn't sleep, I just wasn't tired, studying...
Pretty much everything on that list. ('Cept the last one of course.)

I've done an all-nighter for every reason listed in the poll pretty much. Only very rarely for a good reason though.

I've pulled many an all-nighter... my best being 2 all-nighters in a row, then staying up for the whole third day (ended up being 69 hours) :O Partially assignments, partially boozing, sometimes you just can't sleep, sometimes you don't WANT to sleep.
A lot of the reasons you've put up are valid reasons for why it has been done by myself ^.^

Yes, I have "pulled" several... For mostly all of the above. Also when at parties that goes on a bit too long I have to pull an all nighter to not sleep until 18:00 the next day.

when in a booze up holiday with my mates i woke up at 7 in the morning and remained awake until 11pm the next day despite massive intake of alcohol- i felt terrible by the end.
at parties and sleepovers we used to stay up all night gaming
i probably exceeded 24 hours without sleep about 14 or 15 times in my lifetime
never done it because of studying or working

Hmm... Given the fact that most people so far have not only pulled many all nighters but have done so with pride has led me to change the poll slightly.

I myself love my sleep and try not to lose a minute of it for anything.

I frequently do.
My sleeping patterns are so fragile, every sleep in or extra hour awake results in a slow decline into becoming nocturnal.
Seeing as it's much easier for me to stay awake than to wake up, I pull all nighters to fix that.

Also, I get random bouts of insomnia. Sometimes I do it because I can't help it.

I have pulled it once.
It was a couple of years ago on a school trip to Milan. There were around ten of us in a five person hotel room. Me and a couple of other guys stayed up through the whole night (penalty for falling asleep was getting toothpaste on your face) by doing a lot of stupid shit and managed to catch "Evil Dead 2" on the TV at around 4 AM. That really fucked with my head.
Needless to say I fell asleep on the bus the next day.

Why the hell would anyone pull an all-nighter unless they were at a mates house and even then SLEEP! come on guys you would be thinking the same if you were not to deprived of sleep.

I pull all nighters for a different reason everytime!

but the last time it was an intense gaming and drinking session yeeeeeeeah

Left 4 Dead when you're pissed at 3 o clock in the morning is epic. And Rock Band is impossible

I'm a complete nerd so me and my friend stay up all night playing Supreme Commander decimating the pathetic very hard difficulty AI.

I have yet to stay up all night do something productive. (Except maybe when I got my Diablo 2 barb up like 60 levels lol).

Join the fricken' club. I suffer from chronic insomnia, and, coupled with hayfever, means that I haven't slept since Sunday morning. Favourite reason is gaming though :)

I pull one for every reason but to fix a broken sleep schedule. Usually, my body will listen to me and go to sleep when I need it to, so getting a good sleep schedule is easy. Pulling all-nighters is just kind of fun for me to do.

In the space of 64 hours I spent approximately 60 of these on Gears of War. I didn't sleep and the other 4 were spent eating, walking my dog etc. Just cos I could.
