We've all done them before (well a good amount of people I would think) but what concerns me is that after doing them for awhile. If you pull enough of them for a good amount of time do you go crazy? What im asking is does it mess with your brain chemestry?

I only really pull them if I have an assignment to do or I just don't want to sleep. Feel like crap for the next day though, even after I sleep it off...

i don't do all nighters because a tired smudge is an angry scary smudge so i wouldn't have a clue if it makes you go crazy

I've pulled a few all nighters before but not a lot. The trick is to no eat or drink anything sugary. If you drink three monsters when your pulling an all nighter yet you resist the crash then yes possible things may happen to you.

I used to pull them at the Annual Boy Scout Camp In. The only Boy Scout function where we could bring electronics. I spent 8 hours straight playing RuneScape (hangs head in shame)

Near the end of my first year of university (so, last May onwards), I started not going to bed until about 5.00am and getting up about 1.00pm. No real reason, I just started to go to sleep later and get up later, fortunately I was usually able to catch up on my work so there weren't any problems with my studies or exams or anything. Plus I always made sure I was up on time for exams or tutorials anyway, regardless of when I went to bed. Never did a complete all nighter though. Just came very close. Being at home for summer has reset my sleeping patterns though, so I should be back to normal times when I go back to university at the end of this month :)

[small]EDIT: Welcome to the Escapist, OP, don't mind the bodies under the stairs, please give your regards to our friendly troll Doug (sadly ill with swine flu at the moment), and don't break the rules. I recommend Lord Krunk's Banhammer and You thread, if you haven't already read it. Hope you enjoy your stay.

currently im on one just to fix my sleep schedule since in the past two days I have gone to bed around 7:35 am... which I will say has been occurring on and off during this summer and the previous summer. So I really dont think that its totally a bad thing but my sibling told me otherwise. He said that if you continue to pull enough of them you will go crazy. I took it at the time as a long term thing. Granted I only notice myself being in a wierd state during the next day and then after getting some sleep im doing just fine.

I've been going to sleep daily at 5 A.M and waking up at 12 or 1 P.M. for the past 2 months, and I'm still mentally sane. But I now have to fix my sleeping habits in 2 days because school starts for me on the 9th...

I've only successfully pulled an all nighter once.
It was hellish on my end.

I only bother trying so I can attempt to fix my sleep schedule.

Sometimes, when I have to work alot or just don't feel like sleep.

Most of the time it involves work, red bull, and the escapist.

Only once (not counting LAN parties) when I had to finish my project for school (I only had to do a few thousand lines of code and then start with the server program).

Someone should really clean those out, they're getting ripe.

Some Febreze, even, would be appreciated...

OT: Games can make me stay up all night, but not schoolwork. Schoolwork isn't as important.

Yeah, but Max seems to like the smell. I've told him but he just won't listen, and I'll be damned if I'm spending my money cleaning up his dead corpses. We should probably put together a (BAMALAM) kitty or something (see what I did there?) for cleaning supplies and so on, or just get Doug to do it when he recovers.

I'm liking that last idea. [small]Such is the price of life as a troll, no matter how friendly...[/small]

Sleep deprivation, when taken far enough, will definitely mess with your brain chemistry. On the other hand, it's all about training.
