Well, aside from the parts that suck, which would be all of them, Mass Effect's story is pretty shit.

Of course I said it was shit, during the parts that were even mildly interesting (the ones with Sarren) all I could think of was "Locutus of borg!"
i dont get that reference and i will not acknowledge it. i thought it was fantastic.
How could you not get that reference? Get out of my internets! >_>
We are Dyslexic of Borg, your ass will be laminated.

To be fair, I did like Saren. He was about the only character in Mass Effect that realized what dross the script was, and so he stayed as far away from the camera as much as he could, hiding in his trailer, getting drunk, and considering alternative careers.

Well, you've got me. I've thought out ways to improve DAO and ME2's plots, I don't think I've thought out ways to improve Mass Effect's. I'll chew on it and get back to you.

You prefer Alpha Protocol to Mass Effect. That tells us everything we need to know as far as how high to regard your opinion.
Exactly. He has taste.

So, I've been seeing this game advertised EVERYWHERE, but I just can't decide if I want to get it. It looks pretty cool, but it also seems like they just copied a lot from Mass Effect. I wanted to know how people who actually played the game felt, so please express your opinions.

Edit: By the way, I LOVED Mass Effect 1 and 2. I really love those rpg/action stuff.
Ive heard it blows dumb ai and tons of gliches.

StarTreck: The New Generation.

Its the name Borg gave to Picard(sp?) once they assimilated him.

OT: Wait for the community to mode the game to the playable condition (and the price will drop at the same time).

EDIT: Your Nerd membership has been revoked. Hand in your card. Now.
I dont even know what the hell a borg is. i dont like star trek.

edit: picard is the bald british guy though right?

Having actually played it, I haven't really encountered that. It is unpolished, but it's in a better state than the last Stalker release.

I wasn't going to get it since I don't care about an espionage rpg (and if I did I'd be in the CIA), but from what I've read it's pretty horrible to boot.

Do you think theres any chance they'll release a patch for the PC version, to fix all the bugs and everything?

this is from a guy who has PLAYED IT THROUGH THE END. sure it has glitches but patches will fix that. the game is really fun and the story is FAR more complex than mass effect could hope to achieve. the choices given are not what they seem. even if you make bad choices the outcome is WAY different than what you would expect on a far more detailed level. if you have a mind and can make your own choices, buy it. oh and ONE LAST IMPORTANT THING:

the amount of alarms that are triggered by your character determines how "covert" you are in a particular area. if you trigger an alarm or KILL someone then it will be easier for your enemies to find you and make your position far worse. the logic goes like this "another corpse means another police investigation and next of kin that could bite you in the ass". remember, the people who say "don't buy it" are the same people who believe a anonymous person can be an obsidian employee with NO sources, reason, or ID to back it up.

EDIT: also, get it on the PC.
To be fair, if you focus on a heavy combat role, the game doesn't become unplayable, it just becomes much more combat oriented. So it's theoretically possible to screw yourself by killing loads of people, and not taking points in the weapon skills. I say, theoretically, because I haven't found this to be the case.

EDIT: Also one more thing. Buy intelligence before you go on a mission. These shift the mission in your favor heavily if you take time to prep the mission. Sometimes pieces of intel can unlock new dialog, or new paths through the level, other times they'll reduce the enemy presence or add additional weapons to the level that you can nab and use.

Alpha Protocol is probably the most underrated release of the year so far.

You like RPGs with a lot of cover based shooting a la Mass Effect? Get it, after putting some skills in firearms, the combat is actually enjoyable instead of inaccurate and dumb.

You like a good story? Get it. Maybe it's not the best story ever, but there are many interesting plot twist, some of the deserving 'Holy Shit, what did you just said?' reaction, like
Thorton fighting Chinese agent Omen Deng to prevent the assassination of president of Taiwan, Ronald Sung... Only it turns out, Deng actually is also trying to protect president, and has an intel about you trying to kill Sung. In the meantime, the real assassin makes an attempt, and it will succeed, unless you did precautions about it earlier in the game
Pure brilliance.

You like the mechanic of making choices, but you feel, most of the releases are only hiding their limited options? Get it, here the choices actually matter. And I'm not only talking about the major ones. The way you are talking with people to like or hate you can be decisive as well...
Like with Marburg. Heh... ;]

Overall - get it. I'm playing it since release over and over again, saying 'Fuck you!' to other great games waiting for me like Red Dead Redemption.

It's really worth at least trying.
