CoD gets blown out of the water, no doubt about that. No chance of winning for me. Half Life and Halo though. That is a touch choice. As much as I love Half Life I am going to have to go with Halo, I have gotten much more enjoyment out of it than I have HL.

And disregard that above mostly. Since I see this is only considering the Single Player campaign I have to go with Half Life. The enjoyment I got out of Halo was due to the co-op campaign being some of the best fun I have had gaming.

Huh. It's tough for me to say.

I would say that the one I got the most instant enjoyment out of were the CoDs. But I love cheesy action movies.

The one that I feel has the most lasting power is Halo, because it's my favorite fictional universe, and nothing gives me such a feeling of wonder as looking at Forerunner structures, and nothing sends shivers up my spine like Halo music, or learning more about the universe.

But I'd say, as a single player game, the Half Life games are the most well designed. The level design is superb, the pacing is (for the most part) perfect, and the enemies are varied enough to present a challenge without getting aggravating switching back and forth between how to fight them. Plus, mods. MINERVA: Metastasis <3

My "favorite" award would have to go to the Halo ones, followed by CoDs, followed by Half Life.

WARNING: Fuck the haters.

But, OP, don't worry- you'll most likely win. Most people prefer the Half Lifes.

Come on man. This is The Escapist, of course we're going to say Half Life!
Yep. I am afraid to point out the various flaws of HL, but I am scared to here.

But people saying that HL2 was the pinnacle of FPS... Really guys? Really? uhhh.

i voted COD for several reasons. one..i hated the half-life series.. i dont know why i just hate it... i havent had problems with games like it but i just hated half-life. and i never played the halo campaign so i cant comment on that one. so the only logical choice was COD because i didnt like half-life at all and i never played the campaign for halo..and going off multiplayer i still choose COD... however if tf2 were included in this poll that would have gotten my vote because even WITH the campaigns of halo and COD its still heads over heels better.

Call of Duty is shit.
Halo is good, but the other option is fucking Half Life.

I can't imagine the Escapist community not voting for Half Life, unless its in spite over the recent HL3 related announcements.
It's a bit like going into a group of film nerds and asking whether or not they like Citizen Kane, IMO. Not that HL is that great - just that it's held in such high regard 'round these parts.

COD - They know how to deliver an experience that is fun and challenging while changing the single campaign elements enough so that you don't lose interest.

I'd have given the nod to Half-Life if it didn't suffer from terrible pacing. I personally find that nearly all segments of the game wear on far to long before moving to the next. Ravenholm being the one exception that felt just right. I love Half-Life 2, but I'd like it even more if about 8 hours of padded content were cut from the single player experience.

Honest question here, does it? I've never seen Halo hate mentioned here, besides people saying that other people hate it for no reason. I've seen an awful lot of (deserved) praise, though.

Halo, HL2 and EP1/2 are good, but not games I would play again, just too boring lots of the time.

Back when Reach came out, hooooly fuck there was some hate going on. And then after the Halo 4 trailer.

Anyway, if you're just going by single player Half Life. Halo CE and Reach were great, and CoD 2 and 4 campaigns were great, but Half Life is consistent.

Oh god, Half life destroys those games in terms of single player, possibly because the other two games heavily rely on multiplayer which detracts from the single player experience in the first place.

Take Half life or TES games as the perfect example of games that don't need multiplayer, because you will get more enjoyment/use out of them than you would out of COD or BF games.

Portal and Portal 2 are in the half life universe, yes. however they're not half life games and shouldn't get grouped together as being part of the same franchise.

Deathmatch is pretty much a multiplayer expansion for half life 2 (in the same way odst has the separate disk so you can play the halo 3 multiplayer), lost coast is just an abandoned project which valve uses to show off the source engine and finally half life blue shift and opposing force are expansion packs for half life 1.

sure it adds up to more if you count the expansions as separate releases, but if you're going to do that then you might as well count every single map pack for halo and call of duty as a separate release.
Then why count the Halo animes and such? Sure they maybe Halo but not always stories that count towards the main storyline in much matter. Hell Portal may not be with the events of HL, but at the end of HL2 EP2 when it showed the ship with the Aperature logo on it, that made it clear connections that Portal1/2 are connected in major ways.

Also if we take out Halo Anniversary (since it really is just a remake and not even a full release as part of it is Halo: Reach) and Halo Animes then we have 9 and that's counting ODST which really is just an expansion to Halo 3, sure you don't need Halo 3 to play it but it's hardly a game on it's own, when half of it is basically Halo 3.

And while Half-Life 2 EP1/2 and Blue Shift, Opp Force, and Decay are really expansions, none of them require the original games to play them, so they're in the same footing as Halo: Anniversary and ODST and unlike something like WoW where you can't buy the expansions without the original game.

I've played all three-Beaten Halo 1,2, and ODST, Half-Life 2 (All), and I played one CoD, so I basically beat them all.
Unfortunately, HL felt drawn out with the vehicle sections--it looked great and to show vast open areas--but, I wanted to shoot things that actually challenged me, which only seemed to be Headcrab zombies, as the Combine like missing/standing still.
CoD has nothing really special besides-this x gun shoots faster than y gun, so there's nothing special about them as a series.
Halo, though, as being my entry into FPS, feels great as having a wide variety of enemies that have special traits about them all. There are differences in vehicles that makes them all usable, and each weapon is different with separate purposes and little gimmicks about them.
So yeah, I chose Halo with HL behind it and CoD in the dust.

I call bullshit. Halo 1 and 3 had SP campaigns that could rival HL. It's just that since the release of H2, the communities focus has been on MP.
