The better assassin depends on who's controlling the character, surely...
I voted Ezio because, as a character, he is sooo much better than dull ol' Altair.

I'm going to go Ezio based solely on the fact that he had a personality.

I AM getting tired of playing him though, and the fact that Desmond - for the longest time I thought Desmond and Altaïr had the same voice actor btw - is the one we're playing in the 3rd game is disappointing.

People are so silly with this personality crap, Altair is more badass than Ezio, who had more time ingame to actually have a personality.

Ezio. A much more fleshed out and properly realised character. Also I didn't like how Altair had an American accent in the first game. I mean, really?

Altair. Ezio drives me nuts and he looks like a shiny orange sausage in cut scenes.

Dammit! I accidentally clicked Altaïr when I meant Ezio... :'(
Anyway, Altaïr wasn't as hot headed and driven emotionally - and that's good if you're an assassin - but that also made him seem less human and likable.
I personally think that they should move up the timeline, and change the protagonist. Or even let Desmond have his own game! :O

No just kidding ;P, but seriously: I've been getting a little tired of playing only Ezio Auditori de dum de dum de duh. Surely Desmond had other far relatives that were assassins?

Ezio. He's not water soluble and he has a more likeable personality. Not to mention that his whole story doesn't hing on him being naive of the evil dude in his midst the whole damn time. (hey, did you just laugh manically in the corner?
ugh... no, go out and kill someone.
okay.)

Altair. He had his job to do, and he did it, while still having character development, and being the better assassin.

And, quite frankly, Ezio kinda repetively forgets how to be an assassin, or how sneaking works, and, in Ubisoft's quest to give him a personality, manages to be dull and irritating.

At least a brick with googly eyes is entertaining.

Best Assassin?
Err... the warrior monk who has been tailored since birth to kill people? Yeah... it has got to be Altair by a couple of fucking miles.

Who is the Greater Assassin?
Ezio. He's just so fucking cool and stylish :) Its like he takes it all in his stride.
He has adapted to life as it comes and effectively taught himself to have the conviction to murder his way through 10% of Italy's population in that era in order to avenge his family.

Altair for sure. Even though you hardly get to know him there's just something about him that makes you believe that he's unstoppable and he was the one who invented the weapons that Ezio uses. Ezio is still a great assassin though.

Ezio.

Altair was a walking brick with no emotions beyond a bad attitude. There was some attempt at development, but it took place within four conversation with some guy behind a counter and felt like an afterthought.

I'm not entirely fond of Ezio either, but he actually had an established personality and character traits.

Well, if you were to ask Ubisoft i think we all know what the answer would be!
EZIO ALL THE WAY!!!
That guy has had way more assassin time that Altair.
Seriously, Altair has had what, 2 games?
Whereas Ezio has had something like 6...

Ezio is a more developed, fleshed ouyt likeable character.
Altiair is a blank face that kills people.

Although, that being said, Ezio's emotions never really correspond with the players actions.
