Who would win in a fight?

While Desmond relives Altair's memories he has a synchronization bar while as Ezio he has a life bar, what does this mean you ask?

When Desmond relives as Altair and gets hit or falls a long distance he loses sync i.e. it didn't happen that way, which means that Altair was never hit nor fell a great distance EVER whereas Ezio did(and can be)hurt.

I also prefer Altair's personality as he a philosophical yet merciless assassin.

Altair didn't have as much personality as Ezio, but only because Ezio now has three games based around him. Plus Ezio was also seen before he became an assassin, so, more personality.

Altair was a very cool character, but he was much less developed than Ezio, so I think the latter takes the prize

Ezio is the reason I stopped playing the Assassin's Creed franchise only a third through the second game. So definitely Altair.

Altair, Who developed the current equipment that Ezio used, like the armour and the new type of wrist blade.
This, Ezio even used altair's outfit because it's better than his. Also altair didn't need anything wimpy like family
I LOL'd XD

Altair, since Ezio is really nothing but an Italian copy of Altair... with better cardboard... and more people talking

I can't say that I like either of the two protagonists or either of the two games really; however, I can say that I enjoyed the medieval holy land setting infinitely more than the renaissance Italy setting. I'm quite excited about Constantinople in Revelations though. Oh how I wish to climb Hagia Sophia...

This far (in the games) Ezio, simply because he actually has some character.
There wasn't much to Altair in the first game.

I do reserve the right to change my mind after seeing more of Altair in Revelations though.

Altair: A 'master' assassin who breaks all the rules in one mission because he was being an angsty twat.

Ezio: A master assassin who has more emotion, personality and is way more badass.

Yeah Ezio wins in my book.

Ezio, he just had more personality then Altair, and it changes the older and more experienced he becomes, which I thought was a good touch, and so I would say the best Assassin is Ezio, but only when he becomes a bit older. Young Ezio I wouldn't say was stronger then Altair however.

Altair ofcourse. To me he just seemed.. way better at it than Ezio

Well this thread is who is the better assassin, not the more likeable one.

Well, Who the better assassin is depends largely on the way you played the game(s). And since you are literally an ASSASSIN, it would be strange if one of them were better than the other.
But if we're going on actual assassin skills, I guess, since Altaïr was so bland and boring, maybe he was also very callous. Something you need to be to be a good assassin.
When it comes to people actually killed, I think Ezio wins.

Hmmm.

Technically I suppose Altaïr is the one who's been brought up his whole life as an Assassin, so he's understandably a lot more mechanical and colder about the whole thing. But I have to admit to being a little bit in love with Ezio - he's a badass who still has a bit of humour in spite of everything that's happened to him. Plus he's a ladies man. And I can't really put up much of a fight against that. :)

Personally I liked the way that Ezio almost got steamrollered into the life he ended up with. He's gone from this carefree nobles' son to a Master Assassin, and had to grow up quickly.

Altair, because he's more of an anti hero than Ezio. I liked that he killed his informants after interogating them in AC. It showed that he was not some boy scout, but that he was in fact a killer, a assassin.

They're probably both just as awesome. Altaïr has a disadvantage because he only had one game, a game where he was just a cog in the machine, I might add. In ACII they make him this Assassin Jesus but we only get to hear and read about it. I hope he'll be fleshed out in Revelations.

Ezio is cool because I've played through most of his life. ACII starts with him at 16 and Revelations will end with him in his 50s and you see him grow as a character through all that. He becomes much more serious as the years go by but still retains his sense of humor and playboy attitude. It gives him a certain charm.

EDIT: So my verdict is Ezio, if only for a small margin.

Altair.

If anyone has read the Assassins Creed books they will know why.

Ezio is nowhere near Altair's league.

I like both BUT with a slight edge to Altair. Altair in AC1 acted more like a assassin while Ezio more or less just wanted to kill. thought in his defense i'd be pretty f--kin pissed off too if the templars killed my family.

Why are people confusing this question for who is the more interesting character? Yes Altair is unassailably bland with no distinctive personality traits or idosyncrasies to him whatsoever but that's not the question which was asked. He just asked who was the better assassin, which I would have to say is Altair who seems much more stoic in being able to carry out his duties and much more efficient given the much more limited resources he has to work with.

Ezio, no contest. In my opinion, Altair had about as much personality as a brick with googly eyes glued to the front.
This.

I never finished AC 1 because Altair bored me so much. And when he wasn't boring me, I wanted to slap him.

I loved Ezio - such a nice guy. Also, sexier. ^^
