I agree with you 100%. They shouldn't have been driving while drunk even on a normal day without the snow or ice. They could have hurt many others and they really should have thought a bit before driving. Now, they're just examples that health teachers and driving instructors are gonna use to show the problems with drinking and driving.

It was a jerkish thing for you to say, but it was their fault. They decided to do what they did, and now the survivors have to live with that.
Doesn't make you a bad person for declining, just a bit of a jerk for saying what you did at such a time and to their faces, seeing as they will have to live with the death of that friend.

I actually agree with you wholeheartedly that they should now suffer the consequences of their actions. I'd support any victims, had there been any. Though you could have probably just declined, unless asked why you weren't donating to the girls - then let the reason rip!

Which is what I would have done. Wait to be asked, "Well, why the hell not?!" Then let the answer fly!
This

My opinions are mostly fairly distasteful, so I avoid voicing them until asked. Then what I'm thinking is fair game.

No, you're honest, brutally so.

I'm not sure if I would help pay...perhaps if I knew them well.

Did they deserve it? No
Did they have it coming? Yes

Wait, what? People wake up from a coma and get fucking charged?

As for your actual point, I can see where you're coming from. I don't know if I'd side with you if it came up, but I can see your point.
He's an American, we don't have free health care over here and someone needs to pay to keep the hooked up to life support >_>

i can't tell you how i feel about the girls that did that because they did do something less that intelgent but they were younge and thats what happened, unfortante who it maybe. eventhough you didn't donate you still seem to be a good person because you asked, a bad person would feel no semibalnce of remores or doubt, i can't say i would have do the same but i'm canadian so this sort of thing doesn't come up because of health care.

What happens if they're in a coma for 20 years and no one pays?

I wouldn't have donated either. Why should I pay for someone's dumb mistake.

Ok that sounded harsh but you get what I mean. I'd refuse and walk away. I tend to get pretty mean when incidents like that happens.

So this Tuesday 3 girls went drunk driving at 11 AM and crashed. 1 died 2 are in a coma. One of there friends came around asking for a donation to help pay there medical bills. I declined and said if theyre dumb enough to go drunk driving at 11 in the morning on a snowday when the roads are bad then they can face the consequence and pay for it themselves. I got a lot of dirty looks and i was told i was being selfish. Does this mean im a jerk or would you have done the same?
Meh. I would decline. A few years back we had an accident around here when two people got stoned and tried to drive around railroad gates. Both killed, one pregnant. I felt no remorse for them, and you shouldn't either.

They pay monthly, not when you wake up I believe and if no one can pay, then they take them off life-support I would imagine or come to some kind of deal with the Insurance company or the victim's family. Needless to say, its a flawed system.

You are a bad person but not because you were wrong.

The hospital can not take someone off life support without the permission of the next of kin or someone who has been granted that authority by the coma patients last will and testament. That said you will have one hell of a bill when you wake up. Hope you invested.

Driving: Somewhat dangerous to begin with.
Driving in snowy roads: Rather unwise.
Driving drunk: Plain stupid.
Driving drunk in snowy roads: probably undeserving of sympathy.

Then again, that they were drunk might have a thing to say about ignoring the roads, but they were still stupid enough to drink and drive. Do you pity the fool that loses his arm sticking it down the throat of a sleeping bear?

You probably shouldn't care much for "sensitivity" either, someone's bound to be offended at most anything these days, and if they are:
[sub]Maybe I'm just desensitized...?[/sub]

I would say they got what they deserved. They made a stupid decision and could have hurt more than just themselves. If they had hit a pedestrian or, another car they would have been prosecuted. Let them pay their own way.

Nah. I don't care much for sticking by society's standards of a good person.
Sure, many of my own standards overlap with them; but I don't think you're bad for not donating money to the kind of people who go drunk driving.

I can't really relate to the situation though. Since, you know, healthcare is free here.

Edit: And why do so many people vote that he shouldn't say it out loud? If people think I'm a bad person for thinking the way I do, I don't want to associate with them in any case.
