Unless your clothes are rags or no longer fit you and you need new ones, you are in the right of spending money in whatever way you want.

Get some clothes now I'd say. Leave a bit on the side, wait for the game to come down in price, then get it. Of course, if your clothes are perfectly acceptable, I wouldn't suggest worrying about them, but if they're the kind of rag I wouldn't feel clean wiping my nob on, then you might want to consider...

Use your birthday money...on clothes?

I don't think I have ever done that in my lifetime.
Uh, you haven't lived!

OT:

1) That's not an analogy
2) Your money, do what you want with it

Assuming it was freely given with no stipulations, it's yours to do with as you please.

It's your money, get what you want to get.
Use this excuse, it always works for me: if you wanted me to have new clothes, then you should've got me new clothes.

if money is tight and your parents can't really afford to buy you clothes then they are probably in the right.

if that's not an issue then do what you want.

edit: if you've already got a bunch of games, don't rush out and buy a new one.
tell your parents you're going to save it for a rainy day, then when that rainy day comes buy the game.

heres a brief analogy
recently i obtained a good amount of money and want to spend some of it on one
game . but my parents want to me spend on clothes etc now am I just being an ass
am i in the right here .
i got the money from birthday gifts so i hardly earned it
so......
Do you need clothes badly? if yes, then spend at least part of it on an inexpensive outfit or two, then save the rest up to buy the game later. Especially if your family would be hard pressed to otherwise buy you the clothes. Essentially, unless there is some profound reason why you NEED to buy clothes, spend it on what makes you happy. However you could earn bonus points if you bought just a couple of cheap shirts and saved for the game later; showing that you can be a responsible person means you will impress your parents and make them proud, and proud parents are more generous parents.

It your birthday money, YOURS whether you earned it or not. If you parents wanted clothes for you then they should have made sure that is what you were given instead of the freedom of raw cash... get whatever the hell you want.

This is not a major moral dilemma so don't be hard on yourself if you choose not to do what your parents wanted with the money. Birthday money is the best kind of money, it was given to you and you get to do whatever you want with it. Not like money earned from working or allowance from parents where there are restrictions and conditions you have to abide by. So what I am saying is: buy whatever you want, but if I were you I would buy a couple of cheap shirts and maybe a pair of trousers just to make your parents happy and then just go game crazy (that's what I do)

Dude. If it's your BIRTHDAY PRESENT, buy games if that's what you'd rather want for your birthday. Most guys don't celebrate stuff by getting clothes. Just a fact.

Buy what you want. It's your birthday money, your parents aren't the ones who gave you the money and buying clothes is what they should be doing anyway.

Hmm, my parents clothed me pretty much, and by that I mean, I didn't have to wait for my birthday to get money to buy my own clothes. Money as a birthday present tends to be so that you can buy what you want with it to make it a present, so go buy that game.

I mean, what is this? Even in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he was poor but got to spend his birthday money on what he wanted. Unfortunately it then turned into some kind of sick gambling addiction...

Yeah, I guess it depends on your situation what you should buy... I mean if you get around looking all Napoleon Dynamite,or but nekkid, you might reconsider your parents opinion... but at the end of the day it's your money, and if spending it on a game is a mistake, well, that's your mistake to make... Yup.
