Like most companies, I'd wager they're neither good nor bad, but wherever the bottom line (i.e. consumers wallets) lead them to be.

Selling utterly repulsive stuff like that - legal as it may be[footnote]And should be insofar it does not provably encourage any crimes against actual children.[/footnote] - will generally mean a decrease in profits, since the amount of customers for such a thing would be exceedingly small, and the dislike for it of most of the persons in charge of their wallets immense, I'd consider it a smart business move to pull it. It's not like stuff like that won't find another way if there's a market for it anyway.

Personally, I could not care less about what companies I deal with also stock, as long as it is A) legal, B) not pushed upon me, and C) does not provably do any harm to real life persons. I can stay the hell away from stuff like that on my own. If other private parties don't want to trade with them, for whatever reason, that's fine though.

Amazon is neither good nor evil. It's a website where you can buy stuff, essentially a virtual Wal-Mart. Whether that stuff is used for good or ill is entirely in the hands of the customers, and isn't Amazon's responsibility. Hell, they probably sell bowie knives, too, but no one would think to blame them if somebody got stabbed with one.

This is the boring, yet, right on the money way to look at it... Just look Dildo up in there... They won't even ask you for an Age restriction... It's just a site selling stuff. I think the real assh*les are the guys that made such guide... Blergh

I was just about to search Dildo in amazon just to see if you were right but then I thought about it and decided I don't want female sex toys appearing in my list of products recommended for me.

If the CEO of Amazon turned out to be a sex offender, then that's one thing. However, that's not what happened here.

This is a huge company, they'll sell anything. That's what people want, what they expect, and frankly, what the company is for. Can't get it anywhere else? Amazon wants your business. I'd be more shocked if you said they didn't have the Pedophilia Handbook. I'm only distressed by the number of people that wanted one...

Good thing they removed it. It apparently taught child molesters how to groom their victims in a way where they would take as little damage as possible. A noble cause, I guess, but it would be better if they just didn't molest children.

Paedophilia is not so simple as just right and wrong though. Child molesting is wrong of course but not all paedophiles are child molesters, so no need for Amazon to give them any confidence to become child molesters.

Not directly, they buy cheap second hand books and sell them for profit. In fact, Mum has also written and is currently writing books about how to make a living out of it. At one point we had a unit with 20,000 books in it.

Just because they'll distribute anything that falls under the freedom of expression certainly doesn't make them evil.
And actually, I feel sorry for a lot of pedophiles. That may sound weird, but everyone seems to think that 'pedophile' is synonymous with 'child rapist'. This is not the case, anymore than, say, 'heterosexual male' is synonymous with 'rapist of helpless women'. A person's sexual feelings aren't their fault and they can't control them. More to the point, a person shouldn't be shunned for them.
