American Football.

It's got the right mix of tactics and planning, and usually pretty exciting games (unless you have a good running back. Then the games are very slow)

Edit: Used to play football. I was actually extremely good at it back in the day too, given that I was playing a defensive position and me being extremely small for my age. I'm not one for bragging, but I can be a pretty tough guy when it comes to sports.

Gave it up in place of Cross Country.

I'm a sports player and I can handle Rugby but playing Australian football is kind of too tough for me for some reason, its not as painful but the running around and movement is exhausting.
Yeah Aussie Rules makes higher demands on physical endurance than either type of rugby. LOTS of running and a lot of space to run in.

Oooh, i don't really like either.
But Rugby, since i'm English and American football is PATHETIC!
Seriosuly, it's essentially Rugby, but with more padding.
Plus it's not football.
Our football is the real football!

POSERS!

I watch and play rugby. Never seen a full game of American football, but I've played it. Not as good as rugby imo.

Also, you where a cup when playing rugby? Seriously? What the hell?

I can't stand either, but if you twisted my arm I'd have to go with rugby.

I tried watching handegg once and it was about as interesting as watching a game of golf.

Armor is for pussies . Last championship , the winning teams captain lost like 5 teeth but won the domestic cup at rugby , that's a real sport! No armor!

Joke all you want about no armor, but, with a guy like this on the opposing team, your going to want to wear that cup.

Interesting Facts:
Rugby used to be referred to as "Rugger"
Association Football was then referred to as "Assoccer"
Which eventually became Soccer.
Thanks, 19th century English Schoolboys!
No opinion on Rugby/Gridiron tho.
Don't really care

Neither.

But I love baseball. A lot. Out of my interests it probably goes: Music, then baseball, then everything else. I played it in high school (and in summer leagues, and fall leagues) and have been on a few rec-league teams since. And I have an MLB.tv subsription.

I enjoy both, though I lean more towards American football for the strategic element. As someone mentioned, you pretty much need to play in pads when up against a guy like Ray Lewis.

I'm a hockey fan first and foremost, though.

I enjoy watching something happen for most of the game.

American football has about as much appeal to me as a game of chess.
Hey now, don't knock chess!
But watching chess would be pretty boring...

OP: I will occasionally watch Canadian football if its on, and Rugby, but never American football; its just so very boring.

That's the thing, Rugby and American Football are both great games, but American Football is more like a game of chess than Rugby is. It's far more tactical (and if you even attempt to deny that, I'll slap you [I'm also assuming we're talking about real Rugby {that is, to say, Rugby Union}])...

That was a lot of parentheses.

Anyway. Yeah, American Football is much more tactic-based than rugby is, and while you can have certain plays being run (Leinster are a great bunch for the plays off the back of scrums and lineouts in Rugby), it's just not as complex as a game of American Football is.

I enjoy watching both, but I think I'd prefer playing rugby, to be honest.

Pro football is the only sport I watch. I don't know that much about Rugby, but out of all the sports I've ever seen, American football is the best designed. There's still benefit in making good plays even if your team doesn't score, there's tons of strategy, you can win through a great defense, there may be a few standout teams but yet any team can beat any other team on any given day... I love it. No other sport excites me as much.

I'd rather play other sports like tennis, but as a spectator, I could never find anything I enjoy more than football.

And go Stillers.

I can watch both. I'm not the athletic type, especially at my age with the torn rotator cuff and the high blood pressure. But I prefer to watch good old American Football. Not out of any sense of home grown pride, but mainly because I understand the rules. Having not grown up watching rugby, I don't quite understand the game. That being said, American Football is getting WAY too penalty heavy for it's own good. I understand the league wanting to protect their investment on the star players and no one wants to see anyone get really hurt. But for crying out loud, let the boys play.
