Now it?s a common fact that the American army came to aid the allied forces engaged across Europe.
However Americans believed this meant they single handily turned the tide of the war and ?won it?.

How much do you think Americans are bias about their engagement in World War 2?

Personally being English I feel their involvement was instrumental in ending the war a lot quicker but I think the true praise belongs to British and Canadians, but more so the French, those who faught the war from the bloody begining to the bloody end. Their country is a living memento to the fallen, all over and I mean all over France you can find graveyards and a memorials to all the men whom fought and died in that horrendous war.

I appologise for posting within the incorrect threat catagorey

Disillusion? Doesn't that mean to remove an illusion? Why not just `illusion'?

All english people believe they were responible as well. It's generally trying to say your country was the best.

I'd say the biggest amount of praise should go to the russians, and it probably would were it not for stalin being a massive tool and being all murderous and whatnot.

You seem to have a lot of illusions yourself of Britains importance in the war. The true praise belongs to the russians who killed over 70% of german forces, and where the ones to invade Berlin.

I think the true praise lies with the Soviets....you don't have to like the leadership, but they are perhaps the only reason the war fought by the Western Allies could be won.

EDIT: They also suffered the greatest casualties by a long way. To my mind, they've earned the credit.

Here? barely?
IRL? Completely. They think we were getting our asses handed to us in the war, yet we stopped them in the air in Britain, and we were beating the Germans in North Africa.

They also think the later stages of the war were dominated by D-Day. Ever hear of Bagration?
Entire German offensive gone, obliterated.

I choose to think the Americans acted as a catylyst, not essential to the war, but a Great help (when they join in).

Hrr, Im British myself and believe me, I know exactly what you are talking about...but I seriously suggest you stick 'some Americans', because put it simply, not all Americans think that, just the simple minded few.

That's a common misconception, Actually the Russians won world war 2, they lost 20 million people and entire towns starved just leading and holding the Germans into Russia where many of them died.

If it weren't for them Germany would have invaded huge chunks of Europe easily.

The way I think of it, the Americans were instrumental in winning the war in the Pacific, and the Soviets were instrumental in winning the war in Europe. There are other factors, sure, but that's the easiest summary I've heard.

If you take anyone of the main allied countries out of the equation I doubt the allies would have won World War II.

Every country has its major contribution to WW2 and for The United States its mostly production, not to mention the P-51 Mustang. Britain was vital, a staging area for bombers and the entire Invasionary force and another huge aspect of the Air war. The Soviet Union of course made Germany fight a 2 front war. Not to mention Australia Canada and other countries that contributed to the entire war effort.

So basically if you didn't have the US you would have lost a huge amount of air power, without Britain you wouldn't be able to get anyone to Europe safetly and without Russia you have all the Germans fighting on the Western front.

Ninjad. The Russians shed more blood than any other country during WW2. I'm not sure whether or not the U.S was a turning point in the war, we'll never know if the Brits could have handled that shit on their own.

I believe you have your own illusion that all Americans believe in that illusion. Simple as that.
Touche, i will admit i'm a heavly jaded person, but i am simply responding in a negative way to a bias representation. Thanks for the input though, you've made me look upon myself in a different way.

However. You yourself haven't stated your stance on the situation, care to share?
