America cancelled Firefly, man. They gave up on the show because not every person in front of the TV instantly loved it. That's not flawless!

OT: I'm not sure, both have some really good shows but I have the impression US shows try to cover flaws in storytelling up with a crapload of special effects. Not that I don't like me some exploding zombie-raptors, but if they don't fit in the story (I want to see the story it fits in btw) and are just for entertainment of easily distracted viewers they seem a bit misplaced.

the new series of doctor who starring Matt Smith, one of the worst actors I?ve ever seen who is only outshined in terms of shitness by his mono-faced sidekick (also hot doesn?t equal a good actor Megan Fox is an example of this), I only watched Victory of the Daleks and those one?s with them angel?s in them but...they were an abomination.
Do you mean by this that you love David Tennant and want to have his babies so noone can ever replace the gaping hole in your heart for him, even though the new doctor/series is pretty funny and mature?

You have no right to say Matt Smith is the worst actor ever after one episode.

Beacause of this, I'm not answering the question.

Code:
No Versus threads here. Read the rules. As no versus threads are here, I can pick both.

I have stuff I love and hate about British TV and I also have stuff I love and hate about American TV, so I have no favourite.

[HEADING=1]OPINIONS[/HEADING]

People have them. All of your statements concerning the TV shows AND the intellegence of Americans are your personal opinions

That is all
the whole point of this thread is too get your opinions.i was giving my opinion too,its allowed im sure am i right?
By which I meant that you were presenting your opinions as fact
But then again us Brits also have absolutely rotten shows which are hyped e.g the new series of doctor who
'I think','I believe' or 'it is my opinion' or any variation thereof never factors into the above statement. You make it quite vague to non-Brits as to whether the series is actually an awful show and everyone thinks this, OR if you simply believe this.

Also, not to stab and be elitist, but if all you go out of your way to watch is Family Guy (eeerugh...) and Futurama (cool), I would say that your opinions are both poorly based (you having not watched all that much) and pretty telling as to your preferences...in a hardly flattering light

What this thread really needs is Australian TV... except the only thing I know of that makes it overseas is Neighbours, and maybe Home and Away... There's really not much worthwhile.
The only things I can think of that are worth exporting are Spicks and Specks and the Gruen Transfer. We really aren't good at 'home-grown' TV and movies. We'll just have to settle for being awesome at everything else.
Geeze I forgot those.
Also I love Good News Week. Paul McDermot is hilarious... and short.
Kath and Kim is good, and Russel Coight but they're both very much Australian humour and as we saw with the American Kath and Kim, do not translate well at all.
I reckon Russel would be alright. Its a sort of subtle slapstick that we do well and I reckon a lot of people would enjoy. Kath and Kim are very Aussie though. We couldn't export the Aussie version. Its a bit of an inside joke. The American version was terrible. You could see they had absolutely no idea how the humour worked or why it was funny.

American TV lost me after the great Reality TV invasion of the early 2000s, and then my childhood got destroyed when Cartoon Network and Nick decided to unceremoniously drop all the clever and smart and funny shows in favor of live-action BS copied from the Discovery channel.

British TV wins on comedy (Monty Python, Blackadder), Doctor Who (and a little of Torchwood), and Fawlty Towers. Where's your equivalent to those, America? Oh right, there is none.

No offense to British TV at all, but American TV has HBO...and if we're including HBO original shows in this mix then it's not even a fair fight. : )

Not much difference any more. Same old shit with ad breaks every five minutes, just in case we're in danger of actually getting into a program.

First, I think they know that Scotland is a part of Britain, it's not a guarded secret. Second, I actually prefer american TV. Not a single one of the programs I watch is produced in the UK, most of it is from America and a little bit from Australia (yes I watch neighbours don't hurt me D:).

I see alot of US stuff on my (English) TV, and I honestly think the BBC is using alot of crap as filler, it's just that alot of it isn't interesting. And then we have degrading shit like the X Factor and Big Brother. That's not to say there aren't some gems hiding in there, QI and Have I Got News For You, for example.

I haven't ever watched American television, so I can't really make a comparison.

In my experience British TV is better than American TV, but to me this topic seems a tad flamey so i won't so much more.

There are good and terrible shows on both, and it is difficult to pick between the top shows on each side. Considering just comedy for a moment, it does appear that American shows labour and explain their jokes a lot more, really hammering home that they think something is funny and THIS is why it is funny and NOW it's your job to laugh, whereas their British counter-parts seem to look down their noses at anyone making jokes like that. Generally speaking, I would rather watch british tv, but 3 of my top 5 would be American, including The Wire at number one.

Fixed that for you. They torched it when they realised it was good. For that sin, American TV cannot be forgiven.
