The sad thing is, I have once heard that argument from an American, stringing seatbelt requirements to big government.Owlslayer said:I'm not American, so i shouldn't even be in this thread/poll.
But i just had to comment that the poll button opinion was awesome. I mean, i always click on a poll-thread, even if i don't really care what's being posted there. I just want to vote...
And "Seatbelts are for communists" made me laugh.
I have to say, that's a lot of funniness in one poll. Well done, lad!
Anyways, i do always wear a seatbelt. I mean, why shouldn't I? They save lives.
many states require it now, which I don't believe in, but yes I wear a seatbelt. Better question, why do people smoke, smoking more often kills people than lack of seatbelts. human beings are far too often entirely unconvinced in their own mortality.TheRealCJ said:Okay, context: I have a mate who lived in the US for most of his young life, moved here about a year ago. Every time he gets in my car he complains about having to wear a seatbelt.
"Ugh they're so uncomfortable, nobody at home wore them, this stupid country etc."
Why is there such hatred for the things? Sure, it's not as comfortable as doing without, but neither is lying on the hot road with bits of glass embedded in your freshly peeled skin.
Perhaps I'm just used to having to wear one at all times, but I honestly don't see why a piece of fabric designed to save your life is such a big imposition to put on when you drive.
Edit: Looking into this, I discovered an interesting little Tidbit: Apparently, the reason that there are so many Air Bag related injuries in the US (compared to the rest of the world) is because to achieve the standard US safety rating, the air bags have to be deployed much faster (and therefore much more forcefully) than the European/World air bag deployment time, to compensate for the possible lack of seat belts.
Agreed. A large percentage of the U.S. is mentally retarded. This is why we keep having to drop our standards in public schools (the tards breed faster).paragon1 said:I live in the U.S., and I don't know anyone who refuses to strap into their seat belt. Maybe it's because I don't generally associate with retards?
He hit the nail on the head here. In the event of a catastrophic impact, I do not want an unguided projectile in my car. I'll also seatbelt large objects down (laptops, computers, other things that I wouldn't want flying around). While it may not be 100% effective, whatever force it does take from the possible projectile is a bonus.Jonluw said:I remember I was taught this when I did the introductory traffic course: If you sit in the back, using the seatbelt is even more important than when you're in the front. Why? Because the people in the front seat probably appreciate not having a grown person flying towards the back of their seat at 80 km/h.....
Wait, really? Well, i suppose all nations have some not-as-bright people.Zay-el said:The sad thing is, I have once heard that argument from an American, stringing seatbelt requirements to big government.Owlslayer said:I'm not American, so i shouldn't even be in this thread/poll.

Ha! Reminds me when I was younger living in Qatar (Next to Saudi Arabia - Now live back in britain). My dad was driving me to school one day and got pulled over by the police. He thought they were giving him a speeding ticket or something and instead thanked him for being in his, and having me, in seatbelts (because so few Qatries do) and gave him a free watch! Lol awesome times.TheRealCJ said:"Ugh they're so uncomfortable, nobody at home wore them, this stupid country etc."
Yea but if you hit another person and your body goes flying into their car and you die it could really mess them up mentally.Vuljatar said:I live in the U.S. and I never see anyone not wearing seatbelts, so I am forced to conclude that OP's friend is the kind of person who has only avoided natural selection for this long by pure luck.
Also I feel compelled to weigh-in on seatbelt laws... they should only apply when there is more than one person in the car. The only people your flying, idiot body is likely to injure are your passengers, and the chance of your body doing serious damage to another vehicle in the event of a collision is infinitesimally small.
