I'd have stolen his backpack, but left the macbook and other contents there. Then mention some stuff was left by someone to security while leaving.

Then the guy comes back and gets to have some very mixed emotions of being happy his valuables are still there but confused as hell why the backpack they were in isn't. And hopefully this would trouble him for a good week or so, which would mess with his head and on the bright side probably make him less likely to forget something like that again.

Or alternatively if I didn't want to rip them off for the backpack or was just too lazy, I'd slip in a note saying "I have stolen exactly one item from you", and have them go mad wondering what it was.

I found $20 on the supermarket floor the other day and handed it in to the service counter. Don't know if that was impressive integrity on my behalf, or just kinda dumb, seeing as it'll just go in their till at the end of the day I imagine.

So yeah. That's the kind of person I am.

I'd call security, but this isn't really me being a good person and more due to how I don't really care about "stuff" that much.

I probably would have just left it there. Not my problem. And when the owner realizes it's gone he or she will probably return to that spot where they left it to get it. But then again, if a free computer was staring me in the face... damn it I don't know.
