So you're sitting at home, probably watching King of the Hill, when you get a knock on the door. It's an old lady! She tells you of her childhood as she grew up in the house that you currently own, reminiscing about happier times. She then makes a request for you: She wants to die where she grew up (more specifically, in your house).

For this scenario, we assume that she will die peacefully in the night. No legal issues, no leaving an old lady at your house for five weeks waiting for death, no complications at all. If you do not own your living arrangement, the person who does says it's OK if you will allow it. If you say no, she will accept your decision and shuffle on home. You will not get anything for doing this. No, it's not a scam, she will die peacefully wherever you stick the old lady in your house.

Do you allow her to do this?

As much as I would like to fulfill her request, I don't think I could. It's...weird. I don't really know why it's weird, I just really would rather her not die in my house.

If everything else was already sorted out and there was no possibility of a misunderstanding, sure, why not.

Everyone wants to die feeling content, if I'm the one who can offer that contentment, who am I to refuse?

NOPE.
I'd be watching My Little Pony.

OT: Yes, I'd do it. As a somewhat religious fellow, I have a deep respect for old folks who are near death. The only thing I'm worried about is the s*tstorm that it'd cause with my mother and stepfather XD

it really depends on what room. i would set up a separate room and let her die there, just not in my room, creepy.

I'd call the hospital and have people be there after she goes to sleep. And I'd be out for the night so I don't have to deal with anything.

She could be a malevolent witch. If you let her in, she could curse your house with pestilence and poison your water supply. If you don't, she might cast a nasty curse on your first-born child. You might want to just slay her at the doorstep there and then. Then she'd really be knocking on death's door. :D

make your house smell of death.

OT: actually, i've been looking for a new air freshener...
'Dead Old Lady' from Azriel.

i would be fine with having a house that some lady died in.
i would ask her to donate her body to medical school though, because apparently they're running out of dead people.

I... actually don't know how to answer this.

I... guess I would say yes, if only because I was too dumbfounded to say no. I really can't find any actual harm in this, so...

Yeah, I wouldn't have problem with letting the old lady die in my home in the scenario you describe. I'm a nice guy and death doesn't really bother me, my job has desensitised me to that factor. All I would ask is that there would be people there to make sure that she is comfortable in her final hours.

I'd let her do it. Why not?

Then I could sell the chair as haunted.

Edit: She better not eat any of my damn food, though. If she's dying anyway, then she should die without taking anything with her.

"As a paramedic, I'd insist on contacting her next of kin or any nursery home/hospital relevant to her in order to confirm that this wouldn't be a problem for them. I'd need confirmation that she was indeed a terminal patient and that there was no rescussitation order set up for her case. If it was okay for them, I would let her spend the night where she wished and keep her company until the end."

That too. I wouldn't go on her word alone, she could be senile and lost for all I know. I would need some sort of conformation that her story is legit.

Well....I suppose if I had assurance that it wasn't scam, and there was NO WAY it could resolve into a legal issue, or I'd have cops questioning why I have a dead person in my house...I'd say OK I guess. It would feel wierd walking by the spot everyday though, thinking to myself, "someone died in that spot...I wonder if she's gonna haunt me now..."

The real problem would be getting rid of the body before it started to give a horrible stench.

Definitely this first, but if everything checked out clear, then sure.

To grant someone's final wish like that, for me, would be an honour.
